CBSE 2023 Class 12 Maths exam paper analysis; Balanced, NCERT-based questions, say teachers

NEW DELHI: The CBSE Class 12 maths exam was conducted today, March 11 between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. The class 12 maths exam was held for a total marks of 80. Students who took the exam found the difficulty level of questions in the maths paper moderate. The Class 12 maths question paper had questions from NCERT textbook. CBSE board exam 2023 live updates

The CBSE Class 12 maths paper was set in line with the sample paper provided at the official website -- cbseacademic.ac.in. Analysing the paper as moderate, balanced and as expected, Harmeet Kaur, HOD Mathematics, Silverline Prestige School, Ghaziabad, said: "The questions were mainly based on CBSE guidelines. The direct questions were quite easy and the competency-based questions were average. Students were able to attempt the paper in time. The paper pattern was similar to the CBSE Sample Paper for the Session 2022-23."

The maths HOD also said that students were satisfied. The questions of case study were application based but the MCQs were mostly easy to moderate. Students found that approximately 15 percent of questions were above average.

Saying that the MCQ or the question paper were easy but not obvious, Vijay, PGT Math, MRG School said: "Short questions were mostly easy to answer and were based on the NCERT. The case study was based on understanding the subject and was useful to analyse the learning of students. Though there were no long questions, the paper was quite easy from every perspective and covered all the aspects of the subject."

As per Nilutpal Bora, PGT Mathematics, Modern English School, Guwahati, "Today's maths paper ( 041) was of quite moderate level . All questions were from the syllabus and the questions related to the chapter matrix and vector was relatively of easy level."

Bora stated that content was strictly based on NCERT syllabus and the MCQ questions were of moderate level. The questions related to calculus part was also of moderate level and few of them were either directly from book or from previous year question paper.

"Overall if a student has studied the entire syllabus thoroughly and also practiced the previous year papers he will be able to score very good marks. The paper can be easily completed within the stipulated time period," he added.

As per students, the difficulty level of the question paper was easy to moderate, said Ajit Pratap Singh, PGT Mathematics, KIIT World School Gurugram.

"The toughest section was Section C and E. The questions on the exam ranged in difficulty from moderate to easy. Science students find the paper easy but for commerce students, it was tricky and lengthy. Questions based on case studies required conceptual knowledge. Overall an easy-to-moderate paper as far as the difficulty level is concerned, with a balanced approach for all kinds of students," Singh added.

According to Ashish Punj, PGT, Maths, DPS Raj Nagar Extension, question paper was well designed keeping the interests of students under consideration. "MCQ questions were pretty straight forward and could be answered easily. Financial mathematics had direct questions based on value. Questions predicted can be seen frequently on every page of question paper. Overall, if a student had prepared well, they will be able to score it with more ease," Punj added.
