CBSE Class 10 2nd Board Exam 2026: Best-of-two policy
A major aspect of CBSE ’s revised assessment framework is the "best-of-two" provision. Under this arrangement, the board will retain the higher score achieved by a student across the two examination attempts. As a result, students can appear for the second exam without the risk of losing marks earned earlier, as only the better performance will be reflected in the final result. The measure has been introduced to ease academic pressure and offer greater flexibility in performance improvement.
The second board examination results hold significant value for students aiming to secure admission to sought-after Class 11 streams, particularly science, humanities, vocational courses and commerce. Many schools use Class 10 board performance as a criterion for stream allocation, making the additional examination an opportunity for candidates to enhance their scores and improve their chances of obtaining their preferred stream.

Why did CBSE introduce the Class 10 phase 2 exams?
The Class 10 second board examination is part of CBSE's new two-exam system introduced under the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Under this system, students are provided with two opportunities to appear for board examinations in the same academic year, allowing them to improve their performance and reduce the pressure associated with a single high-stakes exam.
