Class 9, 11 results within three days of lifting lockdown: Delhi govt

NEW DELHI : Results for classes 9 and 11 may be published within two-three days of lifting the lockdown, the Delhi government said on April 4.

Delhi’s education director Binay Bushan disclosed this at a live question and answer session conducted by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present.

“The results will be announced two-three days after April 14 when the lockdown ends,” said Bushan.

The country is under a lockdown due to the coronavirus from March 25 till April 14.

Addressing a student’s query, Sisodia said that the exams which were suspended following the lockdown will not be conducted again. “Children should not worry that the exams which were cancelled for these classes would be retaken again,” Sisodia said.

Bhushan informed that the average marks of exams conducted for classes 9 and 11 would be taken into consideration as teachers were unable to come due to the lockdown.

“We have decided that we will take an average of the exams that were held for classes 9 and 11. We have to also add internal assessment marks with that and since teachers cannot come to classes due to the lockdown, the results will be announced two-three days after April 14 when the lockdown ends,” said Bushan.

Fee waiver

The live session discussed the inability of parents to pay fees. Many private schools in Delhi have asked parents to remit fees as the academic year is about to begin.

Kejriwal said that the “government has to think about both the parents as well as the schools”.

“I have been receiving messages from parents who are unable to pay at this time asking to either waive off fees at private schools or to postpone it. The other side is that if parents don’t pay the fee then how will the schools pay for the teachers’ salary?” Kejriwal asked.

The government was open to suggestions, Kejriwal said: “If anyone of you has a concrete solution to this issue then please send across so that we can discuss it.”

The live question and answer session was held to address the concerns of parents and students following the nationwide lockdown enforced to control the COVID-19 epidemic.
