COVID-19: Assam allows authorities to close schools, colleges if cases increase

NEW DELHI : The Assam Government, on Tuesday, announced that all government and private educational institutions, from pre-primary to universities, can be closed for 15 days if the number of “cumulative COVID-19 cases” in the district exceed 300. The state government has allowed the district administration to take that decision..
The government said that the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) can enforce the order with immediate effect.
Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, however, said that online education will continue to be made available for students.
Sarma, through his official social media handle, said: “ District Commissioners and Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) are authorised to close down all educational institutions (govt & non govt) from pre-primary to university levels along with hostels and coaching institutions for 15 days, as and when cumulative COVID-19 cases in last 10 days exceed 300.”
