Delay MCC NEET PG 2024 round 3 counselling, notify Telangana round 1 merit list: IMA writes to CM

NEW DELHI: The Telangana State Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written a letter to the chief minister of A Revanth Reddy reiterating the requests made by the NEET PG aspirants to start round 1 of the state medical counselling. The delay in the Telangana NEET PG counselling 2024 was caused due to prolonged court cases against the new domicile rule .

The medical group requested the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) to immediately release the state merit list, seat matrix, prospectus and also conduct Telangana NEET PG round 1 counselling 2024.

The Telangana NEET PG counselling is yet to begin, whereas the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has already completed two rounds of All India Quota (AIQ) NEET PG counselling 2024.

The delay was caused due to a new domicile policy which required aspirants to have studied at least four consecutive schooling years in the state to be eligible for the state quota seats, even if they completed their MBBS in a Telangana medical college. After 94 aspirants approached the Telangana High Court , it revoked the state government’s order mandating 4 consecutive schooling years to avail state quota.

“...there won't be any sliding like the previous year in state counselling of Telangana if the counselling happens after December 26th. We are hoping that our state conducts ROUND 1 of counselling before AIQ ROUND 3. At least this may give some benefit to students of Telangana state,” IMA said.

Citing the recent court cases related to NEET PG counselling in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the medical association informed the chief minister that the MCC had given a 3-day resignation period from their AIQ seats for Rajasthan students after the round 1 state allotment results. This gave the candidates who opted to resign from their AIQ seats and join the state allotted college enough time to make a decision and complete the process.

Similarly, the Telangana government should request the MCC and National Medical Commission (NMC) to delay the resignation period of AIQ round 2 and NEET PG round 3 counselling considering Telangana students , the IMA said.

Stating that the “Telangana students are the ones at loss”, the medical association said that the delay in the state counselling is why the NEET PG aspirants of the state are “not able to take informed decisions”. “There may not be desired sliding in between the state rounds, compromising the branch with which students have to stay lifelong, leaving their home State, the distress among students, the uncertainty of our future even after studying so hard for years and securing best ranks,” it added.

It further requested the chief minister to “give eligibility to all the NEET PG aspirants of Telangana for state round 1 without any conditions. If possible, provide a resignation period to resign AIQ round 2 seat after state round 1 results are announced”.
