Delhi University initiates 24x7 mobile patrolling to curb hooliganism during Holi celebration

NEW DELHI: The University of Delhi has initiated security arrangements to curb any possible act of hooliganism during Holi celebrations. The university has also warned students of “strictest possible disciplinary action” against those who disturb the harmony.

“In coordination with the law and order authorities, Proctorial board, Dean Students' Welfare office and security personnel, the University is determined to maintain strict vigil and enforce discipline so that nothing untoward happens under the garb of festivities,” the university said. The Holi celebrations usually last for a week and this year the festival will be celebrated from March 25.

A joint control room has been set up in the north and south campuses of the university. “Mobile Patrolling by the security staff and law enforcement officials round the campus will also be ensured. We have flagged a vehicle of police for 24x7 surveillance of campus named Campus Security Vehicle (Vamika),” it added.

An elaborate internal and external security arrangements on campus, hostels and the colleges have been initiated “to counter any possible act of hooliganism or rowdy conduct in the name of Holi, particularly those targeting women students”.

Moreover, senior police officials have also assured full cooperation to ensure safe and peaceful celebration.

DU said that disciplinary action will be taken against those who create disturbance under the provisions of University Statues and Ordinances. The university has tightened the security to ensure “a sense of safety and security so that the sentiment and dignity of any student and staff is not hurt during the Holi festival”.
