NEW DELHI : Delhi University Academic Council to examine board-wise distribution of undergraduate admissions on Monday. The AC will also discuss “alternate strategies” for admission in undergraduate courses including the Central Universities Common Entrance Test ( CUCET ).
DU admissions this year were marred with controversy as students from particular boards, especially the Kerala state board, were allegedly over-represented. The issue has brought to question whether DU should adopt a strategy that would protect students from boards that had less liberal marking compared to their counterparts from other states.
An interim report by the DU committee found out that out of 39 boards, the highest number of students applying and seeking admissions into DU were from the Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ), while the Kerala board stood second. 37,767 students admitted to Delhi University were from the CBSE board; 1,890 were from Kerala Board of Higher Secondary Education.
The council will also be discussing the admission of other backward category (OBC) students with reference to Non-Creamy Layer status.
The Academic council will be discussing the following agenda’s in today’s meeting:
-
To examine over and under admissions in all undergraduate courses
-
To examine board-wise distribution of admissions in all undergraduate courses
-
To suggest alternate strategies for optimal admission in undergraduate courses
-
To examine OBC admission with reference to Non-Creamy Layer status
The DU Academic council will also be discussing the approval of oversight committee recommendations including Inclusion of 10 discipline specific elective courses for English department and converting PG diploma programme from semester mode to annual mode from 2021-22
The Academic Council will also discuss the approval of the Equivalence Committee recommendation regarding the consideration of applied mathematics at par with mathematics in courses other than pure sciences.
It will also discuss the constitution of a National Education Policy (NEP) cell in the university and the reconstitution of the BA programme committee for a term of two years.
