DU revises eligibility criteria for BA (Hons) English, allows 2 CUET subject combinations

Delhi University has notified the seat matrix for BA (Hons) English in 47 DU colleges. It has also announced that it will admit students for BA (Hons) English based on 2 CUET subject combinations.

NEW DELHI: The University of Delhi has revised the program-specific eligibility for admission to BA (Hons) English through the CUET UG 2025 score. Students should have appeared for the English paper in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET 2025) and any three domain-specific subjects from ‘List B’, as per the DU admission brochure 2025.

BA English (Hons) is one of the most popular courses at Delhi University with more than 50,000 students applying for admission. BCom received the highest number of applications, followed by English and Economics, as per the previous year’s DU CSAS data.

The Delhi University published the UG admission 2025 brochure on the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal, admission.uod.ac.in. The university will admit students at DU colleges based on CUET scores, except for admissions to the School of Open Learning (SOL), Non-Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB), and foreign nationals.

As per the available DU admission data , over 50,000 students preferred to study BA (Hons) English at Hindu College in the previous years. Hans Raj College received the second-highest number of applications for this course. St Stephen's College, Kirori Mal College, and Ramjas College were also among the top choices for English aspirants.

Candidates aspiring to study English from Delhi University will have to appear in the English paper in CUET, in addition to any three subjects from List B, OR one language from List A and any two subjects from List B. Earlier, the subject combination allowed for BA (Hons) English was "English from List A + any two subjects from List B1 + any one subject from either List B1 or List B2".

“For the purpose of ascertaining Program Specific Eligibility and for mapping the CUET subject(s) with Class XII subject(s), marksheet of more than one recognized board may be considered provided the candidate has passed those subjects in Class XII,” the DU brochure read.

DU Admissions 2025: Domain specific subjects

Subjects are categorized into two - List A covers 14 languages and List B covers 22 domain specific subjects. Candidates are required to appear in one language paper that they studied in Class 12 and any three subjects specified in List B. A total of 5 subjects namely - legal studies, engineering graphics, teacher training, entrepreneurship, and knowledge tradition and practices of India - has been removed from the domain-specific subject list.

List A covers 14 languages subjects - Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Urdu.

List B has 22 domain-specific subjects -

To get admission in DU for BA (Hons) English, candidates should appear in any of the following subject combinations.
