DUSU Elections 2023: SFI vows rollback of FYUP, public sharing of university funds in manifesto

NEW DELHI : The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has promised rollback of Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), public sharing of funds received by the university, two hostels in every co-ed college, concessional metro pass, revoking fee hike, menstruation leave for female students and more in its manifesto for the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2023.

SFI manifesto listed down as many as 23 points taking up issues ranging from mental and physical health of students to organising fests throughout the year.

The left-wing student group promised to provide scholarships to all economically backward students and those belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST). It talked about bringing up effective mechanisms which involve students’ participation to counter sexual, caste, religion and region-based harassment in every college and ensuring proper functioning of equality opportunity cells.

SFI vowed to increase funds for college societies and cultural groups; introduce summer and winter student exchange programmes with other universities across the country to “encourage cohesive nation building through recognising and appreciating diverse cultures and traditions”; and revoke fee hikes across all colleges.

The student body further promised inclusivity by recognising queer groups; disabled student-friendly infrastructure; reduction in canteen prices; opposition to change in syllabus; open translation cell; and effective placement cells including alumni.

For women students, SFI also promised installation of free sanitary vending napkin machines in all colleges and university spaces.
