The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has released a press statement on its social media account X. In the release, the CJP has expressed concerns over what it described as the Union Government's failure to honour commitments made to India's youth. The party has particularly raised the issues of withdrawal or quashing of FIRs against students and protesters and compensation for the families of deceased NEET victims.
In the press statement, the CJP said the government has not yet provided the promised assurances. Its National Working Committee will meet on August 24 to assess the situation and decide its next course of action.
Its nationwide agitation was called off on July 25 after commitments were made to the youth of the country. It said its decision was taken in good faith and warned that those commitments must be honoured.
As per the statement, during the Supreme Court hearing on August 18, the court asked the Union Government three separate times to provide a consolidated list of FIRs registered against students and protesters across the country. The list would enable the court to consider using their powers under Article 142 to quash the cases.
The party said that despite the court repeatedly seeking the list, the Union Government did not commit to providing it. The statement also said CHP co-convenor Saurav Das and legal affairs lead Ratna Singh expressed concern that the government was attempting to "cheat the younger generation" after the CJP called off its agitation based on commitments made during talks.
The commitments made to it included the withdrawal or quashing of all FIRs arising from the protests. It also said there was a guarantee that no student or peaceful protester would face punitive action in the future.
The statement also highlighted the commitment regarding compensation for the families of deceased NEET victims. The party said the government delegation involved in discussions with the CJP had not formally reached out to place on record the steps being taken to provide the promised written assurance.
As per the statement, all measures necessary to secure fulfilment of the government's commitments would be considered, including another round of peaceful nationwide agitation if required. It also asked students, young citizens, supporters and CJP volunteers to remain prepared for what comes next.
