Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches teachers’ training programme of UGC

University Grants Commission and union education ministry will train more than 15 lakh teachers during the two-day teachers' training programme.
NEW DELHI: Union minister of education Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Malaviya Mission: Teacher Training Programme at Kaushal Bhawan here today. The programme, which is being organised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in association with the union education ministry, will be held for two weeks and more than 15 lakh teachers will be trained in the country.
The UGC has established a dedicated portal, mmc.ugc.ac.in, for teachers to register for the capacity building programmes.
The two-week online programme will focus on nine themes, including holistic and multidisciplinary education, Indian knowledge systems (IKS), academic leadership, governance and management, higher education and society, research and development, skill development, student diversity and inclusive education, and information and communication technology.
Pradhan also announced that human resource development centre will be now known as Madan Mohan Malaviya teachers’ training centres. He emphasised on improving the quality of education by enhancing teaching methods and the skill set of teachers.
The minister said, “Societal transformation can be only lead through the development of education. The theme-wise training sessions being provided under the programme will help enthuse ‘Samagrata’ (completeness).” He added that the teachers need to be lifelong learners as it will contribute to the holistic development of their students.
Capacity building of teachers
Chairman of the UGC M Jagadesh Kumar elaborated on the role of teachers’ training centre in capacity building of the faculty in higher educational institutions.
He said, “The programme will impart pedagogy-related training and improve the skills of the faculty members. While ensuring holistic development of the teachers and learners, it will also inculcate ethics and human values enshrined in Indian culture. The aim of the training programme is also to motivate teachers to undertake quality research in line with the local, national and global needs.”
