NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has opened the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025. Students aspiring to study MTech and other masters programmes can fill GATE 2025 application form before September 26. GATE 2025 registration link is active at gate2025.iitr.ac.in.
IIT Roorkee will conduct GATE 2025 on February 1, 2, 15, and 16 in a computer-based test mode. The exam will be conducted for 30 test papers.
During the GATE 2025 registration process , students will have to choose test papers and desired examination cities. Applicants are allowed to choose two papers from the provided two-paper combinations and up to three exam cities available zone-wise. In order to complete GATE registration 2025, candidates will have to pay an application fee which is Rs 900 for female, SC, ST, PwD applicants and Rs 1,800 for others.
GATE Registration 2025: Detailed steps to fill application form
Here’s a step-by-step guide to fill GATE application form 2025:
Step 1: Go to the official website, gate2025.iitr.ac.in, and click on ‘apply online’ under the applications tab. Read the instructions and register by providing full name, valid email address, mobile number, and password. Upon registration, an email containing enrolment ID will be sent to the candidate.
Step 2 : Fill the application form by providing the following information:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Personal mobile number
- Parents’ name
- Parents’ mobile number
- Address for communication,
- Eligibility degree details
- College name and address with PIN code
- Choice of GATE test papers
- Choices of GATE examination cities
Step 3: Upload the following documents:
- High quality image of candidate’s photograph conforming to the requirements specified
- Good quality image of candidate’s signature conforming to the requirements specified
- Scanned copy of any one valid photo Identity Document (ID) from Aadhaar-UID (preferable),
- Aadhaar Virtual ID, Government issued ID, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID or Driving License.
- Scanned copy of category certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
- Scanned copy of PwD Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
- Scanned copy of Dyslexic Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
- Net-banking/ debit card/ credit card/ UPI details for fee payment
Step 4 : Before proceeding to payment of fee, review the filled-in application form by clicking on “save and view application” button. Now, click on “submit and proceed to payment” and deposit the fee via one of the payment options.

GATE 2025: Photograph and signature requirements
Photograph requirements
- Upload a good quality, colour photograph of passport size (3.5 cm width × 4.5 cm height) with the face of the candidate covering 60-70% of the photograph.
- The background of the photograph must be white and not contain any other objects or persons.
- The photograph must show the frontal face view looking directly into the camera and must show the forehead, eyes, nose, and chin. The face in the photograph must not be covered with objects such as caps, hats, sunglasses, coloured glasses, etc. Normal spectacles for vision correction are allowed. If the candidate normally wears spectacles, a photograph with glare on the glasses is not acceptable. If the glare cannot be avoided, the spectacles must be removed.
- Upload the image of your photo in JPEG / JPG format of size with aspect ratio, minimum aspect ratio = 0.66; maximum aspect ratio = 0.89. After cropping to the mentioned size, the face must cover 60-70% of the image.
- The maximum pixel resolution is 530 x 690 pixels and the minimum resolution is 200 x 260 pixels. The file size must be a minimum of 5 KB and a maximum of 1 MB. The face must be visible clearly and not covered by any cloth or shadow.
- Face in the photo must not be covered with any foreign objects (except spectacles with power). Sunglasses, caps, hats, coloured glasses, etc. are not allowed. Also, no objects or persons are allowed in the background.
- The main features of the face must not be covered by hair of the head, any cloth or any shadow. Head coverings are not permitted except for religious reasons, but the facial features from bottom of chin to the top of forehead and both edges of the face must be clearly shown.
Signature specifications
- Upload the image of your clear signature in JPEG / JPG format of size with aspect ratio, height: width = 1.0: A, where, value of A can be between 3.25 to 3.75. After cropping to the mentioned size, area of signature must cover 70-80% of the image.
- Signature of the candidate must be in black or dark blue colour ink only.
- File size must be within 5 KB (minimum) to 200 KB (maximum).
- The signature by any other person or any other colour (other than black and blue) will not be accepted.
- Get the digital image of the rectangular box (with your signature inside) scanned by using a professional scanner. Crop it to the border of the box. Table 10 shows sample signatures which are acceptable and unacceptable.
- To avoid a signature with a dark background, do not take photographs with a mobile phone.
- Only JPEG/ JPG image format will be accepted.
- The maximum image size for the signature can be 160×560 in pixels while the minimum size should be 80×280 in pixels.
- The signature must be signed only by the applicant and not by any other person.
- If the applicant’s signature, at the time of examination, does not match the signature on the admit card, the applicant could be disqualified.
