IGNOU launches MSc programme in home science, development management

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a Master of Science (MSc) programme in home science, community development and extension management. The programme is designed for graduates in home science and other disciplines, seeking career opportunities in the development sector.

According to the official statement from IGNOU, the MSc programme will teach learners about various skills and provide knowledge about nuances of extension, development communication, social and behaviour change, advocacy, resource mobilisation, participatory media, gender mainstreaming, maternal and child health, researching in communities, and interdisciplinary areas of home science.

Graduates from home science, community sciences, social sciences, behavioral sciences, pure sciences or any other discipline are eligible to apply for the master’s programme. It is suitable for candidates, who aim to become development practitioners or wish to implement community-based projects, focusing on livelihoods, skilling, health, and education.

IGNOU's MSc Course: Career opportunities

The MSc programme in home science and development management will open career opportunities as project officers in government, intergovernmental, multilateral and international organisations across various sectors.

The graduates from the MSc course can apply for jobs in fields such as social welfare, rural development, health services and agriculture, NGOs, CSR Foundations, Corporations and Social Enterprises, academicians, researchers, PGTs in schools and officers in skill development.

Furthermore, the programme is designed not only to fulfill the academic aspirations of home science graduates but also to support those with a specific background in applying their knowledge to community and social development initiatives, the university said.
