IIEST Shibpur will admit only 40 students in its BTech Mathematics and computing programme through JoSAA Counselling 2026. The BS-MS programme offers structural flexibility via multiple exit options.
The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur (IIEST Shibpur) has launched a BTech programme in Mathematics, computing and an integrated 5-year BS-MS course in Chemistry, Physics and Applied Geology (earth sciences). The 4-year BTech course is designed to bridge the gap between abstract mathematical theory and high-tech application.
The technology institute will admit only 40 students for its undergraduate (UG) programme in Mathematics and computing for the academic year 2026-27.
The admission to the BTech programme is based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) main 2026 rankings, the institute said in an official statement.

IIEST Shibpur Admissions 2026: BTech, BS-MS curriculum
The curriculum of the engineering course includes core requirements equally between rigorous mathematics and practical computer science, according to an official press release.
It is designed to train students in AI, data science, and quantum computing and involves elective tracks and a mandatory summer industry internship to guarantee hands-on corporate experience, it said.
Students successfully graduating the course will have opportunities for roles in software development, quantitative finance, and cutting-edge R&D, as well as advanced research at elite global universities, it added.
Moreover, IIEST Shibpur’s multi-exit 5-year BS-MS programme in core sciences is launched as part of an academic expansion, the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and global demand for advanced technological skills, the institute said.
Vemavarapu Murti Srinivasa Rao Murthy, director of IIEST Shibpur, said: “The launch of our BTech in Mathematics and Computing and the multi-exit BS-MS programs represents a monumental step in preparing our students for an AI-driven global economy.”

“By breaking down the traditional silos between pure science, deep mathematics, and engineering, we are giving our students the ultimate flexible blueprint to customise their education, gain vital industry exposure, and step directly into high-impact corporate and research careers,” Murthy added.
Notably, the BS-MS programme offers students structural flexibility through multiple exit options. The curriculum involves high-demand skill-enhancement modules such as AI, ML, basic computer programming, and sustainable development with experiential learning, field studies, and analytical reasoning, the institute said.
Those graduating from four-year BS (Hons) programme will have equal recruitment access alongside BTech students, whereas 5-year BS-MS candidates will take part in placements along with MTech candidates for top-tier roles in core engineering, finance and others.
Candidates will be provided BTech seats through JoSAA Counselling (20 seats per department), while 20 seats will be allocated on the basis of IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2026 scores.
In case, if any seat remains vacant, it will be filled during a final institutional spot round in July 2026, the institute said.
