IIM Bangalore retains top spot in Positive Impact Rating 2025, scores 9.3 out of 10

IIM-B achieves ‘Level 5 Pioneering School’ status in societal impact assessment; surpasses global average of 7.8 points
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore has retained its position among the world’s premier business schools by maintaining its a Level 5 “Pioneering School” designation in the Positive Impact Rating (PIR) 2025. The institute achieved an impressive score of 9.3 out of 10, which is significantly higher than the global average of 7.8 points.
The sixth edition of PIR witnessed participation from 86 business schools from 28 countries, with IIM-B constantly demonstrating excellence in embedding “positive societal impact within management education,” the institute said in an official statement.
PIR assesses business schools as per the “societal progress and global good” each has contributed. It is governed by a Swiss association.
PIR evaluates institutions based on seven core impact dimensions. Out of these, IIM Banglaore scored 9.42 in governance, 9.32 in culture, and 9.29 in public engagement. According to the official statement, metrics like programmes, learning methods, student support, and institute as a role model also earned high scores which exceeded global standards.
IIM Bangalore: Positive Impact Rating
This year’s PIR rating included a faculty assessment along with student assessments which gave a new perspective to the rating system, recognising how students as well as faculty view the societal impact of IIMB.

“Over the last decade, IIM-B has steadily deepened its engagement with the principles of sustainable, responsible business. Our efforts have been deliberate and in close alignment with the Institute’s mission to create value for business, government, and society. It is encouraging to see that these efforts are recognised through consistent leadership across all impact dimensions," Rishikesha T Krishnan, director of IIM Bangalore said.
According to the statement, the Positive Impact Rating, governed by a Swiss Association, was established by a coalition of business school experts and enjoys support from prominent organisations, including WWF, Oxfam International, and the UN Global Compact Switzerland. The initiative receives funding from VIVA Idea and the Institute for Business Sustainability (IBS), it added.
