IIMC bats for deemed to be University status

NEW DELHI, MAY 28: Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is aiming to get a deemed to be university status. IIMC has put forward a proposal in this regard, which if approved will result in the institute getting deemed to be university status under de nova category with the University Grants Commission (UGC).
While talking to media persons, K G Suresh, Director-General of IIMC stated that if University Grants Commission gives approval to the proposal then all the regional campuses of IIMC will become part of deemed to be university. This will enable IIMC to introduce Masters programmes, M.Phil and Ph.D courses and will give an opportunity to the students to take up career in the field of research and academia. According to reports in the media, there has been a significant decline in the research activities at the institute and the aim is to give the much-needed impetus to it.
Presently IIMC offers eight one year post graduate diploma programmes at six of its campuses across the country. The list of courses that are offered is mentioned below:

Post-graduate Diploma in English Journalism

Post-graduate Diploma in Hindi Journalism

Post-graduate Diploma in Radio & TV Journalism (Medium of Instruction: Bilingual - English & Hindi)

Post-graduate Diploma in Advertising and Public Relations (Medium of Instruction: Bilingual - English & Hindi)

Post-graduate Diploma in Odia Journalism

Post -graduate Diploma in Urdu Journalism

Post-graduate Diploma in Marathi Journalism

Post-graduate Diploma in Malayalam Journalism
In order to seek admission in any of the post graduate diploma programmes, candidates will have to be a graduate in any discipline and will have to meet the requisite eligibility criteria. They will have to appear in the entrance exam which si conducted in offline mode. All those candidates who qualify the entrance exam, they will have to take part in the second stage of admission, which is group discussion and personal interview. The final result will be announced sometime in July.
Regional centers of IIMC to move to permanent campuses
Speaking about the infrastructure of IIMC campuses at Kottayam and North East Regional campus at Aizawl, K G Suresh added that the construction and other work at these campuses is near completion and they are likely to move to the permanent campuses by second semester.
