IIT Bombay launches online PG diploma in integrated circuits design in practice

IIT B’s new 12-month long e-postgraduate diploma offers training in semiconductor technology, including digital, analog and mixed-signal design flows.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched an e-postgraduate diploma in integrated circuits (IC) design in practice. This will be a 12-month long online PG diploma, run with Simplilearn as the edtech partner.

The PG diploma aims to provide working professionals and students with expertise in semiconductor technology. Subject matter will include digital, analog and mixed-signal design flows, RF and MMIC circuit design and SerDes circuit design.

Participants will receive a diploma from IIT Bombay after completing 36 credits. They will be given a flexibility to finish the course in a time period of one to three years.

PG Diploma in IC Design: Curriculum

There will be six courses - two core ones and four electives. The core courses are: ‘Semiconductor Devices’ and ‘Pillars of Digital and Analog IC Design’.

Students will have the option to choose four electives from five taught subjects. These include:

  • Digital IC design
  • GaN (Gallium-Nitride) devices and GaN MMIC’s (Monolithic Integrated Circuits)
  • Mixed-signal IC design in practice
  • RF IC design for wireless communications
  • SerDes (Serlaizer/Deseralizer)IC and system design

The six courses will be taught by the IIT Bombay faculty.

The ‘e-postgraduate diploma in IC design in practice’ has applications open for engineering graduates and professionals who wish to experience “specialised exposure aligned with global professional standards”, said a statement from IIT Bombay.

IIT Bombay PG Diploma: Eligibility criteria

The e-PG diploma is open to students who have completed their BTech/BE/MTech/ME degrees in the disciplines of electronics, and/or VLSI and/or communication and/or instrumentation engineering and/or electrical engineering and/or biomedical engineering.

The programme is also open to working professionals who are:

  • Mid-career
  • Early-career engineers
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Scientists in research organisations
  • Teachers in engineering colleges

‘Specialised training in IC design’

According to the statement, as India is fast-tracking its rise as a semiconductor hub, IC design is becoming one of the essential skills for the workforce. India is building a full-stack chip ecosystem through strategic policies, global partnerships and a focus on self-reliance.

“We want to make learning more accessible to a wider pool of learners including working professionals… We are moving closer to delivering specialized training in IC design, strengthening technical knowledge of learners,” said Shireesh Kedare, director, IIT Bombay.

Kashyap Dalal, co-founder and chief operating officer of Simplilearn, said that the course offers high-quality resources and top-tier study materials to ensure an “enriching learning experience”. He attributed the programme’s excellence to IIT Bombay.
