IIT Bombay ranks second in India in QS Sustainability Ranking 2024

IITB secured 303rd rank globally and 50th position in Asia in the sustainability rankings this year.
NEW DELHI : The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay secured second place in India and is ranked 303rd overall globally and 50th in Asia, in the QS Sustainability Ranking 2024.
The Institute grabbed 218th place in the ‘Environmental Impact Performance’, 439th in the ‘Social Impact Performance’ and 655th in the ‘Governance’ category of the QS Sustainability Ranking 2024.
Last year, the institute got the first place in India and was ranked in the range 281-300 globally in the QS Sustainability Ranking 2023. The Institute was ranked 173rd in the ‘Environmental Impact Performance’ and 484th in the ‘Social Impact Performance’ category of the QS Sustainability Ranking 2023.
Speaking about IIT Bombay’s performance in QS Sustainability Ranking 2024, deputy director (academic and infrastructural affairs) of the institute professor S Sudarshan said, “IIT Bombay is pleased to be ranked 2nd in India on the QS Sustainability Rankings 2024. IIT Bombay has active and very successful research programs on climate, solar power, battery technology, electric vehicles, and carbon capture and utilization, all of which will play a major role in making our planet is sustainable in the long term. In addition, IIT Bombay has taken steps to increase solar power generation on campus. And IIT Bombay's campus is well known for its rich biodiversity, including both flora and fauna, which the campus has preserved and improved substantially over the years.”

- Employability and Outcomes 11.0%
- Equality 12.0%
- Health and Wellbeing 5.0%
- Impact of Education 7.0%
- Knowledge Exchange 10.0%
Following are the parameters and their weightings under Governance Category:
- Good Governance 10.0%
In order to measure the impact of actions taken by universities to tackle the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) challenges, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) introduced ‘QS Sustainability Ranking’ last year.
