IIT Delhi hosts Amandeep Singh Gill, UN Under-Secretary-General, for discussion on AI governance
Talking about shifting trends on technology and AI governance, Amandeep Singh Gill explained the importance of getting young people involved with Global Digital Compact (GDC).

NEW DELHI: Amandeep Singh Gill, UN under-secretary-general for digital and emerging technologies and secretary-general's envoy on technology, delivered a speech on ‘UN@80: New Direction for Technology Governance’ at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) Delhi. Amandeep Singh Gill also talked about shifting trends on technology and artificial intelligence (AI) governance.
The event, hosted by IIT Delhi, highlighted the importance of having a framework that includes all stakeholders, and for countries to work together so that technology and AI can benefit the society, the institute said.
During the talk, Gill explained the importance of getting young people involved with Global Digital Compact (GDC) and pointed out the significance of young innovators and students in making technology development fair and equal.
Vaishnavi Sundarajan from the department of computer science and engineering, IIT Delhi, initiated a discussion and provided thoughtful insights and answered the audience’s questions about AI governance and its global implications.
Gill took a tour of startups incubated at the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer, IIT Delhi. He also met with teams from Cyran AI, Mobisec, Tensor Dynamics, and Synergy Quantum. Each team member briefed him about their work and how their ‘solutions could help with societal issues,’ the institute added.

“This visit shows the common goals of IIT Delhi and the United Nations to promote fair and ethical AI governance while enabling new innovators and future leaders to create real change,” IIT-M added.
The visit concluded with a vote of thanks by Narayanan D Kurur, dean, academics, IIT Delhi. Rangan Banerjee, director at IIT Delhi, deans and other faculty members were also present at the conference.
