IIT Delhi launches Centre of Excellence for Precision and Personalised Healthcare with Wadhwani Foundation

Download NowThe Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi or IITD) inaugurated a Centre of Excellence for Precision and Personalised Healthcare in partnership with the Wadhwani Foundation. It aims to be a collaborative platform for academia, industry and the government to convert research into market-ready solutions for Indian healthcare.

The IIT Delhi CoE is launched under the Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN). During phase 1, the centre will focus on personalised medicine, rehabilitation, bio-imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) as diagnostic tools. Healthcare research will also be conducted towards assistive technology for the elderly and disabled, personalised implants and cost-effective wearables.
The Wadhwani Foundation has pledged an investment of Rs 1,400 crore with national partners, to “strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem”. The foundation plans to establish multiple centres of excellence across the top institutions of India, advancing research in sectors such as semiconductors, quantum technology, space technology, advanced computing, and healthcare. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this nationwide initiative in April.

“This centre will not only nurture cutting-edge research and development but also provide innovators with mentorship, market access, and commercialisation pathways. By bringing together multidisciplinary expertise, we aim to accelerate breakthroughs in precision and personalised healthcare that will benefit millions,” said Shirshendu Mukherjee, managing director of WIN.
The IIT Delhi Centre of Excellence was inaugurated yesterday at the Research and Innovation Park, led by Ajay Kela, CEO, Wadhwani Foundation, and Rangan Banerjee, director, IIT Delhi. The ceremony included Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO, Anusandhan National Research Foundation, Taruna Madan, head, division of development research at ICMR, Rajiv Nath, forum coordinator, AiMeD, Goutam Bhattacharya, CEO, Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council, Nikhil Agarwal, IITD and Gagan Sharma, CEO, Proxmed Australia.
