NEW DELHI: The IIT placement season 2024 is set to begin at all IITs from the start of December. On the eve of the occasion, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) expressed the excitement and said it was looking forward to welcoming a large number of recruiters this year, especially after a dull start in phase 1 placement.
IIT Delhi placement cell informed that 1,222 unique job offers and 741 internship offers were made during the academic session 2023-24. The institute conducted an exit survey in August 2024 to know the excitement for the placements and found that only 5 percent of the students were still on a lookout for appropriate placement opportunities. Moreover, a large number of these PhD scholars are looking forward to pursuing post-doctoral research opportunities in foreign countries.
The number of students availing the on-campus placements in 2023-24 has increased by about 25% compared to the previous year. This also includes a 6-fold increase in the number of PhD graduates.

“The total number of graduates in 2023-24 is higher than the previous year by close to 10%, and the number of PhD graduates by 30%,” it said.
“This year, for the first time, IIT Delhi conducted a special placement drive for PhD Scholars in June 2024, which helped to increase the number of offers by 7 times compared to the previous year. Notwithstanding the success of the initial attempt at PhD placement, a large majority of these graduates are placed through off-campus placement which is to be expected as they are recruited to occupy niche roles,” the institute added.
Correction: A previous headline had suggested that 5% graduates were looking for career opportunities. That has now been corrected.
