IIT Kanpur to host civil engineering conclave ‘Sankalan'24’ on January 27, 28

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) is going to host a national-level civil engineering conclave, "Sankalan," on its campus. The two-day event organised by the department's student-run society, the Society of Civil Engineers (SoCE) will begin on January 27.
The objective of Sankalan’24 is to establish itself as a central hub for knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration in civil engineering. “Sankalan'24 promises an immersive experience with interactive workshops, lectures by industry leaders, competitions addressing real-world challenges, and ample networking opportunities,” the institute said.
Priyanka Ghosh, head of the civil engineering department, IIT Kanpur, said: “Sankalan'24 will provide diverse opportunities for knowledge exchange and immersive experiences. We aim to facilitate cross-over of ideas, champion collaborative innovation, and showcase emerging career opportunities."
The conclave features competitions like the spaghetti bridge design challenge, optimizing water resources for sustainable agriculture, remote satellite design challenge, and crack detection–image classification challenge using machine learning, all tackling real-life challenges. Participants can compete and showcase their innovative solutions to win prizes exceeding Rs 1 lakh.

Beyond the workshops, competitions, and lectures, Sankalan'24 will also host exhibitions, informal networking events, and a chance to explore the IIT Kanpur campus.
