IIT Kanpur launches online MTech, MSc, PG diploma for learners in India, abroad; entry through entrance test

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has launched online postgraduate programmes in MTech, MSc, and diploma courses for learners in India as well as abroad. Eligible candidates can apply for an online test for admission to these courses through the official website at online.iitk.ac.in.
The last date to apply for the IIT Kanpur’s online test is November 16, 2025. The institute will begin the “special inaugural batch” from January 2026.” Notably, those applicants, who are exempted from the entrance test, can apply by December 2, 2025.

“Industry experts contribute selectively to provide practical and interdisciplinary perspectives, ensuring the perfect balance between academic rigor and real-world relevance. Every course includes a strong emphasis on credible and transparent assessment. At least 50% of the total grade weight comes from in-person, proctored examinations held at authorized centers across major Indian cities,” it added.
For international learners, the institute has designed online proctoring options with transparent reporting to maintain fairness and trust. The online set-up will include virtual laboratories, digital simulations, and project-based coursework that replicate real-world experimentation.
In addition, IIT Kanpur is also exploring hybrid models, including short campus residencies or collaborations with regional institutions, to ensure academic rigor while allowing professionals to balance their work commitments.
The fee structure for the online courses reflects the real cost of quality, which includes advanced digital infrastructure, secure evaluatio systems, and continuous course improvement.
