NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM) Calcutta conducted the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 on November 24. The CAT 2024 result was declared on December 19. The MBA admission at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is primarily based on CAT scores. Candidates are required to first meet the minimum eligibility criteria, which includes a bachelor's degree with specified marks and CAT cut-off.

Choosing between IITs and IIMs for an MBA programme, depends on factors like specialisation preferences, placement records, and fee structure. IIMs are more popular for MBA programmes. However, IIT management schools, like SJMSOM (IIT Bombay), DMS (IIT Delhi), and VGSoM (IIT Kharagpur), are also becoming popular for management degree and placement records.
IIT MBA Placements: Highest and average packages
As per the latest IIT MBA placement reports, IIT Bombay recorded the highest CTC of Rs 54 LPA, with an average of Rs 29.88 LPA. As per the latest IIT Delhi MBA placements report, the highest CTC of the year was Rs 41.13 LPA and average package stands at Rs 25.82 LPA, with IT and Analytics emerging as the top recruitment sector.

IIT MBA selection process 2025
The IIT MBA selection process involves the following stages
- Eligibility: For majority of IITs, candidates are required to hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for reserved categories) from a recognized university. Students in the final year of their degree program are also eligible to apply provided they submit their degree in early June 2025.
- CAT Score: The initial shortlisting is based on CAT score. Each IIT sets a specific CAT cut-off percentile, which varies based on factors like the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the CAT exam, and the category of the candidate.
- WAT, PI rounds: Candidates meeting the CAT cut-off are shortlisted for further stages, including a Personal Interview (PI), Group Discussion (GD) and Written Ability Test (WAT).
- Final Selection: The final selection is based on a composite score which includes CAT percentile, performance in PI, GD, WAT, academic background, work experience, diversity factors. The weightage assigned to each parameter varies across different IITs.
