IIT Roorkee rejects viral JEE Advanced 2026 discrepancy claims, says 'no evidence of malpractice'

IIT Roorkee has dismissed claims circulating on social media about alleged irregularities in the JEE Advanced 2026 results. The institute said that several lists being shared online, which reportedly show candidates' ranks, total marks and large differences between scores in both the papers, are not genuine.

In a statement, Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Roorkee said, "The information in circulation is factually incorrect" and added that none of the data appearing in the circulated lists corresponds to any officially released record. This comes after the institute noticed concerns raised by some candidates and parents.

One of the major claims being discussed on platform X is that several top-ranking candidates have unusually large differences between their scores in the two examination papers. Responding to these, IIT Roorkee clarified, "The substantial difference in marks obtained in paper 1 and paper 2 is observed only for 2 candidates out of the top 10000 candidates."

'Nothing exceptional about 2026 results'

The institute further explained that variations in marks between the two papers are not uncommon and well documented phenomenon that has been tracked and analysed by the conducting authority every year. The post adds, "There is nothing exceptional or anomalous about the 2026 results."

Acting upon the concerns about the integrity of the examination, IIT Roorkee carried out a detailed review of all examination-related records. The verification process found no evidence of any wrongdoing. The institute said, "No evidence whatsoever of cheating, malpractice, unauthorized assistance, data manipulation, or any compromise of the examination process has been found at any stage of JEE (Advanced) 2026."

The clarification comes amid ongoing debate on social media regarding the fairness of competitive examinations. Students and parents are therefore advised to rely only on official announcements and verified information.

JEE Advanced results

IIT Roorkee announced JEE Advanced 2026 results on May 31 and Shubham Kumar from IIT Delhi zone bagged AIR 1 by securing 330 out of 360 marks. Arohi Deshpande became female topper by securing AIR 77. This time, the top 10 rank holders are male.

1,79,694 candidates appeared in both papers 1 and 2 conducted on May 17 and 56,880 candidates qualified. Out of the total qualified candidates, 10,107 are female.
