DU sets up committee to inquire into alleged harassment of IPCW students during fest

NEW DELHI: University of Delhi has formed a committee to enquire into the security lapses during the recent annual fest at the Indraprastha College for Women. The university asked the committee to submit the report within a week
Students alleged that trespassers harassed the students and shouted slogans during the annual 'Shruti' festival at the college. Hundreds of students at DU’s Indraprastha College for Women held multiple protests in the past few days.
Prakash Singh, director of the South Delhi campus will head the committee set up by the university. Rajni Abbi, proctor, Pankaj Arora, dean students’ welfare, Geeta Sahare, joint proctor, Manju Kamble, department of Hindi are the other members of the committee.
DU requested the committee to suggest measures to curb such incidents in the future. “The chairperson of the committee is authorized to opt any additional member as and when needed,” it said.
Alleging “authoritarian steps”, the protesting students demanded the resignation of the newly-appointed principal Poonam Kumria over security lapses. Students also claimed that the college's boundary walls have been painted saffron, the same colour has also been added to its logo and guests being invited to the college events are controversial figures, the PTI reported.
Today, More than 500 students joined the protest that took place outside the Gargi College administration office after it restricted some of the cultural events and was planning to reduce the timings of the fest. It will be continued till an answer from the authorities is received, the SFI unit said in a statement. The protest was given in solidarity to IPCW students as well.
