Jamia Millia Islamia loses 11 staff members; some due to COVID-19

NEW DELHI: As many as 11 staff members of Jamia Millia Islamia University passed away in recent times with some succumbing to COVID-19, a statement from the university on April 23 said.

Delhi has recorded 306 deaths due to Covid-19, the highest in 24 hours since the pandemic began last year, along with over 26,000 new cases. The total number of fatalities in the national capital has gone up to 13,193 with the total caseload till now reaching 9,56,348, of which 91,618 are active cases.

Other universities and institutions are also grappling with cases of COVID-19 on campus. These include Jawaharlal Nehru University and IIT Delhi. Delhi University has also moved all classes online in response to the spike in cases during the second wave of COVID-19.

Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of JMI has offered her condolences to the families of the Jamia staff members who recently passed away.

“The entire Jamia Biradri joined the vice-chancellor in offering condolences to the near and dear ones of the deceased,” says a release issued by the university.
