The plea in the Delhi High Court has requested for a relaxation in the JEE Advanced eligibility criteria of “two attempts in two consecutive years” through which, the candidates who did not take JEE Advanced twice or even once, be allowed to appear in JEE Advanced 2023 as a special provision in the eligibility test for pass-outs of Class 12 of 2021 as was given to pass outs of Class 12th of 2020 in the year 2022. The plea also prays for relaxation of 75 per cent marks rule in Class 12th result.
According to The Indian Express , a single judge bench of Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav issued notice to the centre, ministry of education, joint admission board and the JEE Advanced 2023 organising body, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati to file their response by March 23.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had last year announced to withdraw 75 per cent criterion as a one-time measure due to the academic loss caused by Covid pandemic. On January 11, the NTA relaxed eligibility criteria and said that the students who have scored 75 per cent marks or are in the top 20 percentile in Class 12 of any education board will be eligible to seek admission at NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs. Such students will also be able to appear for JEE Advanced 2023. On the other hand, Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates will require 65 per cent marks, as per the JEE Main eligibility criteria.
