JEE Main 2023 Session 1 Updates: Both shifts end; Analysis, answer key, candidates' reactions

The JEE Main application form 2023 for April session will be available at jeemain.nta.nic.in 2023 from February 7 to March 7.

The NTA JEE Main 2023 will be for 300 marks (100 marks for each section). The exam is divided into 3 sections- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, each having 25 questions.

The expected JEE Main 2023 cut-off is  90 for general category, EWS category is 78, OBC-NCL is 75, SC is 54, ST is 44.

Candidates can download the JEE Main 2023 admit card for January 31 BE and BTech paper tomorrow at jeeemain.nta.nic.in.

Mathematics – Moderately Tough Level. Weightage was given to chapters of Algebra and Calculus.

Physics– Easy to Moderate level. Weightage given to chapters of Kinematics, Work Power & Energy, Heat and Thermodynamics, Ray Optics, Current Electricity, Electrostatics, AC Circuits, Modern Physics, Communication Systems, Capacitors.

Chemistry– Easy Level. Physical Chemistry was given more weightage in Numerical Section as compared to Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.

Students said that the JEE Main 2023 paper-1 today has a lengthy and tough math section as compared to 2022. The integer questions were especially hard.

The JEE Main 2023 January 30, shift-2 covered more class 11th more than class 12th syllabus questions. The students said that the Math paper was lengthy and more difficult as compared to 2022.

The JEE Main 2023 shift-2 paper on January 30 concluded at 6 PM. Exam analysis soon.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will administer the JEE Advanced 2023 examination for both paper 1 and paper 2 only as computer-based Test (CBT) in two shifts on June 4, 2023.

JEE Main 2023 shift timings

Candidates are allowed to carry only the following items inside the JEE Main examination hall.

• JEE Main session 1 admit card along with undertaking
• One passport size photograph. The photo must be same as uploaded with the online application form.
• A valid photo ID proof in original.
• Transparent ballpoint pen.
• Personal hand sanitizer (50 ml).
• Transparent water bottle.
• Sugar tablets/fruits (like banana/apple/orange) in case the candidate is diabetic.

The NTA has not yet declared any specific JEE Main 2023 result date. Once the result will be out, it will be available for download on the official website- jeemain.nta.nic.in.

As per the JEE Main 2023 exam pattern,

• Paper 1- BE, BTech will be held for multiple choice questions (MCQs) and numerical questions.
• The JEE Main January 2023 BE, BTech paper will comprise of 90 questions.
• 30 questions each will be asked from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and each subject will be divided into two sections.

The JEE Main 2023 admit card download link for all the dates is available at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

The specific date for the JEE Main 2023 result has not been declared by NTA. Once the result will be out, it will be available for download on the official website-  jeemain.nta.nic.in.

JEE Main 2023 dress code for male candidates

• Candidates must not wear dresses made of metallic items. Metallic items cause problems during frisking and should be avoided.
• Candidates are not allowed to wear a cap or muffler or any cloth that covers the head.
• Students must wear lightweight comfortable clothes to avoid discomfort during writing the exam.
• Wearing any kind of jewellery or ornaments is strictly prohibited.
• Candidates must not wear goggles, rings, bracelets or any of such items.

The JEE Main 2023 hall ticket has details of guidelines including filling up of a self-declaration (undertaking) form to ensure that all the candidates, invigilators and staff members on the exam centres are safe. Details including candidates’ names, JEE Main 2023 application form numbers, test centres and dates of exam will have to be filled in the JEE Main 2023 self-declaration form. The overall difficulty level of the JEE Main 2023 shift 1 Paper 1- BTech, BE paper held today January 30 was 'moderate'.

According to Ramesh Batlish, FIITJEE, the chemistry paper in the January 30 forenoon shift has been analysed as easy.

• Physical Chemistry was given more weightage in Numerical Section as compared to Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.
• Inorganic Chemistry was given more weightage as compared to Organic Chemistry.
• Questions asked from Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry in Everyday Life, Polymers, Biomolecules, Hydrocarbons, Ethers & Phenols, Aryl and Alkyl halides, Chemical Equilibrium, Atomic Structure, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics

Overall, it was a typical JEE (Main) paper of moderate difficulty level which can be solved comfortably in the stipulated time by good students but average students found it a bit difficult. The order of difficulty level in different subjects as assessed by a large section of aspirants is Mathematics > Chemistry > Physics.

Question: What if no answers among the options are found to be correct?
Answer: If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped then full marks will be awarded to all candidates who have appeared irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

Subject Wise Difficulty Level

• Chemistry was the easiest subject to attempt. The chemistry section consisted mostly of easy questions.
• Physics had a mix of moderate and easy questions. Overall Physics was moderately tough compared to Chemistry.
• Mathematics paper was moderate to difficult. Mathematics paper consisted mostly of moderately difficult questions.

Class Wise Distribution Level

• The Question distribution from Class 11th and 12th syllabus was approximately in equal proportion for  Physics
• In Mathematics. It was observed that more questions came from Class 11th syllabus
• In Chemistry, majorly questions were from the Class 12th syllabus.
• Overall the question distribution from the Class 12th syllabus dominated the paper.

Overall Difficulty Level

The overall difficulty level of JEE Main session 1  January 29 shift 2 was easy to moderately difficult. Overall Mathematics was the most difficult subject to attempt. The order of difficulty in different subjects as assessed by a large section of aspirants is Mathematics followed by Physics and then Chemistry.

JEE Main 2023 paper analysis: Candidates analysed the JEE Main paper afternoon session exam as moderate level.

• Moderate Level
• Weightage was given to chapters of Algebra and Calculus
• Questions asked from Parabola, Ellipse, Definite Integrals, Area, Differential Equations, Matrices, Probability, Determinants, Vectors, 3D Geometry, Binomial Theorem, Complex numbers, Progression Series

In JEE Main 2023 shift 2 paper, questions were almost covered from all chapters of Class 11 and 12 of CBSE Board. As per students' analysis, the level of difficulty in Maths was moderate while Physics and Chemistry were easy to moderate level. Overall, JEE Main 2023 January 29 shift 2 paper was moderate level as per students.

Today was the third day of the Joint Entrance Examination Mains (Session 1) 2023 and students had mixed reactions for the first shift. The examination consisted of 90 questions out of which students had to attempt 75 questions.

As per Byjus, the overall difficulty level of JEE Main Session 1 January 29 Shift 1 2023 was moderate to difficult. Overall Mathematics was the most difficult subject to attempt. • In Physics, questions were evenly distributed from the Class 11th and Class 12th syllabus.

The category-wise passing marks to qualify for JEE Main 2023 session 1 will be announced after the exam. There will be separate JEE Main cut-off marks for the General category, EWS category, OBC-NCL, SC and ST category candidates which will be published on the NTA website.

In JEE Main Paper 1- BE, BTech, each subject (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) will have two sections comprise of 90 questions for 300 marks. Section A will consist of 60 MCQs and Section B will comprise of 30 questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. Candidates are required to attempt five questions out of 10 and there will be negative markings for both section A and section B.

The JEE Main 2023 exam is being conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu languages.

JEE Main 2023 medium of question papers

As per the students, the JEE Main 2023 exam was easier compared to last year. The questions were from almost all chapters of Class 11 and Class 12 of the CBSE board. In terms of coverage of chapters, it was a balanced paper.

The JEE Main 2023 Mathematics question paper was moderately tough in shift 1 of the January 29 exam. Few questions in MCQs were reported as lengthy and tricky. The questions were asked from all chapters with an emphasis on Chapters of Conic Sections & Algebra. Some good questions asked from Straight Lines, Circles, Hyperbola, Binomial Theorem, Complex Numbers, Statistics, Mathematical Reasoning, Probability, Matrices, Progressions, 3 D Geometry, Definite Integrals, Area under Curves and Differential Equations.

As per the JEE Main 2023 marking scheme , NTA will follow these to mark the students

• For the correct answer or the most appropriate answer, candidates will be awarded four marks (+4).
• For an incorrect answer, there is a penalty of minus one mark (-1).
• In case a question is left unanswered or marked for review, no mark (0) will be given.
• In case, more than one option is found to be correct then four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
• Also, Four marks (+4) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question in which all options are found to be correct.
• If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped then full marks will be awarded to all candidates who have appeared irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

The JEE Main BTech paper comprise three subjects -- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with two sections - 1 and 2. While Section 1 of JEE Main 2023 will have 20 multiple-choice questions with a single correct answer, the JEE Main Section 2 will have 10 numerical-based questions out of which only five had to be answered.

The JEE Main 2023 shift 1 pre-exam analysis by students in a Hyderabad centre.

NTA is conducting the JEE Mains 2023 exam in two sessions this year.

• JEE Main 2023 session 1 dates -  January 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31 and February 1, 2023.
• JEE Main 2023 session 2 dates - April 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12, 2023.

The JEE Main 2023 paper 1 questions, as per the students’ analysis, were “moderate”. The first shift of the JEE Main Btech, BE paper held today, January 29 had the easiest physics and a moderately tough mathematics paper.

The NTA JEE Main 2023 question paper 29 January shift 1 had questions mostly from NCERT Class 11, 12 textbooks and covered all topics of CBSE Board syllabus.

According to JEE Main 2023 question paper analysis for January 24 and January 25, the engineering entrance exam was easy to moderate in difficulty level.

The candidates taking the JEE Mains 2023 exam must download and print all pages of JEE Mains 2023 admit card and self-declaration form. Other things aspirants are allowed to carry in the exam hall:

• Water in transparent bottle
• Mask and gloves
• Personal hand sanitiser (50 ml)
• Sugar tablets, fruits (like banana, apple, orange) in case the candidate is diabetic

NTA will conduct the second session of JEE Mains 2023 exam in April 2023. The JEE Main April (session 2) dates are April 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12, 2023.

The JEE Main 2023 session 1 exam is being held in two shifts. The second shift will start at 3 PM and will conclude at 6 PM. Aspirants are required to report 2 hours before the commencement of exam and the entry gate will close half hour before the JEE Main exam time.

The physics questions, as per FIITJEE expert, were the easiest.

• Easy Questions asked from Kinematics, Friction, Laws of Motions, Heat and Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Magnetism, AC Circuits, Current Electricity, Surface Tension, Gravitation, Rotational Motion, Friction, Wave Optics, Semiconductors and Communication Systems.
• Few Numerical based questions were Easy.
• Overall, this section was balanced as per students.

According to FIITJEE expert, the JEE Main Chemistry questions were easy to moderate.

• Easy to Moderate.
• More weightage was given to Inorganic and Organic Chemistry.
• Numerical Based questions were mostly from Physical Chemistry - Electrochemistry, Mole Concept, Ionic Equilibrium.
• Questions covered Chemistry in Everyday Life, Environmental Chemistry, Co-ordination Compounds, Aldehydes and Ketones, Hydrocarbons, Biomolecules, Chemical Bonding, Solutions, Atomic Structure.
• Fact based questions from NCERT were easy.

According to Ramesh Batlish, Centre Head-FIITJEE Noida Centres, the JEE Main 2023 Maths paper was moderately tough.

• Moderately Tough Questions were asked from all chapters with emphasis on Chapters of Conic Sections and Algebra.
• Some good questions asked from Straight Lines, Circles, Hyperbola, Binomial Theorem, Complex Numbers, Statistics, Mathematical Reasoning, Probability, Matrices, Progressions, 3 D Geometry, Definite Integrals, Area under Curves, Differential Equations.
• Few questions in MCQs were reported Lengthy and Tricky.

• There was a total of 90 questions and the total marks of JEE Main Paper 1 was 300.
• 5 out of 10 questions were to be attempted from the numerical-based section in each subject.
• The paper had three parts and each part had two sections.
• The paper was easier compared to last year as per students.
• Questions covered almost all chapters of Class 11 and Class 12 CBSE Board. Balanced Paper as per students in terms of coverage of chapters.
• In terms of difficulty, Mathematics was moderately tough while Physics was the easiest among the three subjects. Overall, the paper was of moderate level as per students.
• Students were given plain papers for rough work.
• There was tight invigilation as per students.
• No errors were reported in the question papers.
• Proper social distancing was followed at the exam centre.

The paper had three parts and each part had two sections:

Part 1- Physics had a total of 30 questions. Section 1 had 20 multiple-choice questions with single correct answers and Section 2 had 10 numerical-based questions out of which only 5 had to be attempted. The marking scheme for multiple choice questions was +4 for a correct response, -1 for an incorrect response, and 0 if not attempted. The marking scheme for numerical-based questions was +4 for the correct response, -1 for the incorrect response and 0 in all other cases. The total marks for this section were 100.

Part 2- Chemistry had a total of 30 questions. Section 1 had 20 multiple-choice questions with single correct answers and Section 2 had 10 numerical-based questions out of which only 5 had to be attempted. The questions covered almost all chapters of Class 11 and Class 12 CBSE Board. It was a balanced paper as per students in terms of coverage of chapters.  The paper was easier as compared to last year as per students.

• As per JEE exam analysis, the JEE Main Physics section was easy for both shifts of the January 24 and January 25 exams

In terms of order of difficulty – Mathematics was moderately tough while Physics was the easiest among the three subjects. Overall, this paper was of moderate level as per students.

• The reporting time for students was 8:20 am however the exam started sharp at 9:00 am.
• Students were not allowed to carry anything inside the examination hall except a transparent ballpoint pen, admit card and aadhar card.
• Transparent water bottles were allowed.
• All guidelines as released by NTA earlier were followed for the safety of the exam takers.
• Every student was made to go through a sanitizing station where they had to sanitize themselves through a foot press lever. Students reported that entry was stopped after 8:30 am.
• Personal masks were not allowed. Every student was given a fresh surgical mask at entry.
• Metal detectors were used at the entry gate and no bags or wristwatches were allowed inside.
• Students reported that entry started as soon as they were screened at the entry point.
• Time clock on the computer screen was provided inside the examination hall.

The overall JEE main 2023 exam analysis as per students taking the exam is "easy to moderate", with a moderate Physics and Chemistry papers.

As per students appearing the JEE Main January 29 shift 1 exam, the questions in Physics were harder, while Mathematics were doable and easy.

Analysing the JEE Main January 29 exam as easy to moderate, a candidate taking the IIT JEE Main test from Hyderabad centre said: "Mathematics was easy and doable, while Physics was moderate."

With the shift 1 exam of JEE Main 2023 January 29 exam getting over, students are sen coming out of the JEE exam centre.

The JEE Main exam date 2023 for session 1 are January 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31, and February 1.

NTA has not announced a particular date till now to release the JEE Main result 2023. Once the result is out, aspirants will be able to check the NTA JEE Main 2023 result at- ntaresults.nic.in 2023.

The JEE Main 2023 unofficial answer key has been released by Byjus, Resonance, Reliable Kota, Sri Chaitanya, Aakash Institute and many others on memory-based questions. However, NTA will release the official JEE Main 2023 answer key soon on the official website- jeemain.nta.nic.in.

The JEE Main 2023 registration was held from December 15, 2022 to January 12, 2023. Those who filled the application form are only eligible to appear in the JEE Main 2023 exam.

The self-declaration form is attached to the JEE Main 2023 admit card and candidates need to fill and submit it to the invigilator after entering the exam hall.

The JEE Main previous year question paper is available on the official website of NTA-  jeemain.nta.nic.in. Candidates can practice from the question paper and can get accustomed to the exam pattern.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will conduct the JEE Advanced examination 2023 for both paper 1 and paper 2 only as computer-based Test (CBT) in two shifts on June 4, 2023.

The NTA JEE Main 2023 registration date for session 2 exam is between February 7 and March 7.

Stating that the JEE Main 2023 exam and BSEB Class 12th exam are on the same date, a candidate on social media post said: "I am from Bihar board and my JEE Main paper and board paper are on same day on 1st February and same time (9-12am) also. NTA has issued the JEE Main 2023 January session admit cards for candidates with duplicate credentials and images who clarified their positions.

Non-identical twins from Bharatpur, Aditya Sharma and Anurag Sharma, who were to take their JEE Mains 2023 earlier this week, alleged Saturday that they missed the test as the NTA withheld their admit cards over "doubtful credentials".

JEE Main is held for admission to BE, BTech, BPlanning and for admission to architecture programmes.

The self declaration form JEE Main 2023 is available with the JEE Main admit card 2023. Candidates’ names, JEE Main 2023 application form numbers, test centres and dates of exam will have to be filled in the self-declaration form JEE Main 2023. The applicants will also be required to mention any symptoms of cold, cough, runny nose or fever in the JEE Main self-declaration form 2023.

The NTA JEE Main 2023 exam date first attempt is between January 24 and February 1.

Students are not allowed to carry any bags to the JEE Main exam centre. As seen from a exam centre in Hyderabad, students have been asked to keep their belongings outside.

Candidates must follow certain JEE Main dress code

• Candidates are not allowed to wear a cap or muffler or any cloth that covers the head
• Students must wear lightweight clothes
• Wearing any kind of jewelry or ornaments is strictly prohibited
• Candidates must not wear goggles, rings, bracelets or any of such items

Candidates taking the JEE Main paper today, January 29 must keep these in mind:

• Carry JEE Main admit card
• Fill JEE Main 2023 self-declaration form
• Carry a valid id proof
• A photograph, same as the one pasted in JEE Main application form
• Take ball point pen
• Handover the JEE Main 2023 hall ticket and rough pads to the invigilator at the ens of exam
