Mathematics and Aptitude sections are computer-based, while Drawing is pen-and-paper on A4 sheets. Section B of Mathematics requires integer answers rounded to the nearest value. Paper 1 for B.E. ,B.Tech. in JEE Main 2026 will have 75 questions across Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Each subject has Section A (MCQs) and Section B (numerical value questions). Section B answers must be entered as integers using the on-screen numeric keypad, rounded to the nearest integer. Negative marking applies for incorrect answers in both sections. Total marks for the whole exam are 300

Unanswered or marked-for-review questions without any selected option will receive zero marks (0). If multiple options are correct, four marks (+4) will be awarded to candidates who have selected any of the correct options. If all options are correct, four marks (+4) will be given to everyone who attempted the question.

JEE Main 2026 will be held in English and Urdu at all examination centres across India, allowing candidates to opt for either language while appearing for the entrance examination.

JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in English and Gujarati at examination centres in Gujarat, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, giving candidates the option to choose either language while appearing for the exam.

As per the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) 2025 report by IIT Kanpur, the most preferred course for students at IIT Bombay was Computer Science Engineering (CSE), followed by Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EE and ME).  A total of 28,705 candidates chose the BTech CSE programme for 4-year BTech admissions, while another 24,123 selected EE, and 21,412 choose ME.

According to the previous years' trend, NTA issued the JEE Mains city intimation slip on January 10 in 2025, January 12 in 2024, January 18 in 2023, and January 14 in 2022. More than 14 lakh candidates will be able to download their session 1 city slip through the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an advisory for JEE (Main) 2026 candidates regarding mismatches between submitted photographs and identity proof documents. Candidates who registered with identity proofs other than Aadhaar and whose live photographs did not match UIDAI records are required to verify their identity by submitting a signed and attested certificate along with a recent photograph.

JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in two shifts. Paper 1, 2A, and 2B (3 hours) will be held from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM and 3:00 PM–6:00 PM IST. Paper 2A & 2B (3 hours 30 minutes) will run from 9:00 AM–12:30 PM and 3:00 PM–6:30 PM IST.

Candidates will have to log in using their JEE Main 2026 application number and either their date of birth or password to download the JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam city intimation slip.

The deadline to upload the attested certificate in PDF format via the link sent to candidates’ registered email IDs has been extended to January 15, 2026. Candidates will also have to carry a printed copy of the certificate to the examination centre for physical verification on the exam day

A total of 14,75,103 candidates appeared for JEE Main 2025 across both sessions, out of the 15,39,848 who had registered. Of these, 12,58,136 candidates took the exam in the January session, while 9,92,350 appeared in the April session. The attendance rate for the January session stood at around 95.93%.

Scoring 93 percentile in the JEE Mains exam generally corresponds to approximately 95–101 marks out of 300. However, this can vary depending on the difficulty level of the JEE Main exam. In tougher exam sessions, 92–94 marks might yield the same percentile, while easier papers may require higher scores. This percentile typically translates to a rank in the range of 80,000–85,000.

For JEE Main 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has increased the number of exam cities from 284 to 323 to better accommodate candidates across different regions. The JEE Main 2026 syllabus, along with details on the exam pattern, marking scheme, and eligibility criteria, is now available on the official website.

Candidates appearing for JEE Main 2026 should note that certain accessories are not allowed inside the examination hall. This includes calculators, instruments, geometry boxes, handbags, purses, papers, stationery, mobile phones, earphones, electronic watches with calculator functions, and other electronic or metallic items. All prohibited items should be left outside the exam venue.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed that calculators will not be allowed in JEE Main 2026. The earlier mention of calculator use in the information bulletin was a typographical error. Candidates are prohibited from carrying calculators or other restricted items, including instruments, geometry boxes, handbags, purses, papers, stationery, food, mobile phones, earphones, microphones, pagers, DocuPens, slide rules, log tables, cameras, tape recorders, electronic watches with calculator functions, metallic objects, or any electronic devices into the examination hall.

Candidates facing difficulties in obtaining attestation from their School or College Principal or Headmaster may now submit verification certificates attested by Class-I Gazetted Officers, including Tehsildar, SDM, DM, Revenue Officers, or Indian Embassy officers for NRI candidates. This revision aims to facilitate verification for all affected candidates before the examination.
