NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court of India will hear a review petition challenging its order allowing the JEE Main and NEET 2020 entrance examinations to be held in September. The petition was filed by six opposition-ruled states and will be heard at 1:30 pm. The plea was filed by ministers from West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Maharashtra on August 28. Earlier, on August 17, the SC dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by students' demanding postponement of examination to December due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

The entrance exam for engineering, JEE Main 2020, began on September 1 and will be held till September 6. Close to half the candidates missed the first day of exams, for architecture and planning, and attendance was 81.08% on day-two and 82.14% on day-three of the exam. The entrance test for medicine, NEET 2020, is scheduled to be conducted on September 13. As per the testing body, National Testing Agency it has successfully conducted JEE Main 2020 on September 1, 2 and 3.

A three judge SC bench led by Justice Ashok Bhushan will hear the review plea.

SC: Postponement of NEET 2020, JEE will put 'career of students in jeopardy'

On August 17, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition seeking postponement of NEET 2020 and JEE Main, scheduled in September. The PIL was filed by eleven students from 11 states demanding postponement of JEE Main and NEET 2020. The Supreme Court while dismissing the postponement petition observed that postponement of the NEET 2020 and JEE will put the 'career of students in jeopardy'. Nearly 25 lakh students have registered to appear for the national level engineering and medical entrance examinations scheduled to be held in September.

SC to do "in-chamber" hearing today

The SC bench will do "in-chamber" hearing today, only Judges will be present. According to Advocate Sunil Fernades, no lawyer will be allowed to attend or argue. The judges will either dismiss the Review petition or list it before the open court for arguments, at any date after today.

Advocate Alakh Alok Nath files PIL seeking NEET postponement

A plea has also been filed by Advocate Alakh Alok Nath seeking NEET postponement, it is likely to be listed on September 7. He represented the 31 students who demanding cancellation of final year examinations, also represented students in the PIL demanding postponement of NEET, JEE Main.
