NEW DELHI: Addressing the nation on April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the decision to extend the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown for 19 days till May 3. The extension has prompted medical and engineering students to ask when the National Testing Agency, or NTA, will release the admit cards for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG) and Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Mains).
Earlier, due to coronavirus lockdown for 21 days, NTA postponed the admit card release date for several entrance exams. As per the last NTA announcement, the admit cards were expected to be released after April 15, 2020.
JEE Main and NEET admit card release date
With the lockdown extension, it is being expected that the NTA admit card will now be released after May 3, 2020. There is a possibility of exam dates getting postponed till the further notice. However, no official confirmation has been issued yet. In the meantime, aspirants and their parents and guardians are advised to beware of rumours. Any information by NTA officials will be notified as soon as it gets published.
Exam postponement
JEE Main, conducted for admission to 30,814 seats in engineering colleges, was postponed on March 18, 2020. While admission to 1,63,150 seats through NEET exam was postponed on March 27. The expected date for conducting medical and engineering entrance exams was last week of May, which can also be pushed off.
However, the University Grants Commission (UGC) formed a panel to reduce the academic loss due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the report was expected to be submitted on April 13.
