Maharashtra CET Cell refutes data leak claims, says ‘purported’ information differs from original

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) cell has refuted claims of data leak, containing personal information for candidates for the CET examination. The CET cell said that the “purported” leaked information is different from the original data.

The clarification comes amid reports of leaked personal information of candidates registered for the CET examination surfacing online.

In an official statement, the Maharashtra CET cell said that it has checked the relevant computers in the cell office, including the related systems of the relevant service providers by a third party authorized body.

No information leaked: Maharashtra CET cell

It added that after checking all the computers and other places for data leak, the CET cell found that there was no information leak.

“When the said information is verified with the information available with the cell, it is seen that the nature of the information is different,” it added.

In May this year, the MAH CET cell released statistics for the MHT CET examination , held between March 24 and May 20, 2026. According to the stats, a total of 18,12,565 candidates had registered for the examination, of them, 16,29,484 students appeared for the exams, whereas 1,83,081 remained absent.

In 2026, the MHT CET cell, for the first time, introduced two examination attempts for MHT CET PCM, PCB and MBA-MMS CET examinations.

According to the data, PCM CET recorded 8,01,249 registrations across both attempts, with 7,39,117 students appearing. PCB CET saw 4,00,603 registrations and 3,59,840 appearances, while MBA-MMS CET registered 1,86,769 candidates, of whom 1,57,637 appeared.
