3.2 lakh students who failed Class 9 in Delhi govt schools moved to NIOS over 5 years: Education ministry

In 2023–24, the number of students who failed Class 9 was the highest at 1,01,344, of whom 7,794 were admitted to the NIOS academic session 2024–25.
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) admitted 71,124 of the 3,20,150 students who failed Class 9 in Delhi Government schools over the last five years, as per the data shared by the ministry of education in the Rajya Sabha. In 2023–24, the number of students who failed Class 9 was the highest at 1,01,344, and 7,794 of them were admitted to NIOS in the academic year 2024-25.
The National Institute of Open Schools (NIOS) provides an opportunity for students who repeatedly fail in government schools to avoid dropping out, allowing those who wish to continue their studies to return to formal schooling at their original institution after completing Class 10 through NIOS.
As per the data, in 2022–23, a total of 88,421 students failed in Class 9, out of which 29,436 enrolled in the NIOS academic session 2023–24, which is the highest percentage in the last five years.
In 2023–24, a maximum of 88,421 students failed in Class 9, but only 7,794 students joined NIOS to continue their studies.
