NEET 2020: Ramesh Pokhriyal thanks local authorities for assisting NTA

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam on September 13, 2020 but it was not alone in ensuring the exam went smoothly. The education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, pointed out on his social media account that the local administration of dozens of NEET exam centres helped with conducting that medical entrance exam that had close to 16 lakh registered candidates. Pokhriyal had earlier tweeted to inform that 85%-90% of the registered candidates -- that is, over 13.57 lakh -- appeared for NEET across the 3,862 centres on Sunday.

The result date for NEET-UG is expected to be last week of September 2020. Through scores, the admission to 80,005 MBBS, 26,949 BDS, 52,720 AYUSH, 525 BVSc and AH seats will be granted. These seats will be offered by 542 medical, 313 dental, 914 AYUSH and 47 veterinary colleges.

Through his twitter account, the education minister thanked all the state governments, local administration and NTA for ensuring safety of candidates and conducting the important entrance exam.

He also mentioned that all these efforts helped in building positive attitudes among students. 85% of the registered candidates appeared for NEET at 3,862 centres in 155 cities covering all states and UTs.

After the completion of NEET exam 2020, the education minister congratulated all the students, parents and guardians for their enthusiasm. Through his tweet, he shared that about 2.7 lakh teachers were on duty in exam centres for successful completion of NEET 2020 exam.

COVID-19 ended dreams for many candidates

As around 13,57,450 test takers appeared for the National Eligibility Entrance Test, a number of aspirants were not allowed to take the test. Simran and Shivani from Kota, Rajasthan were not permitted to sit for the national medical entrance test but were forced to sit in an isolation room at the exam centres for three hours. Likewise, some students had to sacrifice their dreams or had to make tough choices by not appearing for the exam due to COVID-19.
