NEET PG 2021: Students demand postponement with rising cases of COVID-19

Use NowNEW DELHI: After the release of the NEET PG 2021 COVID advisory, candidates are requesting the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG). The PG medical entrance exam will be conducted on April 18, 2021. A total of 1,74,886 candidates have registered for NEET PG 2021. The admit card for NEET PG 2021 will be released on April 18 at nbe.edu.in.
Since the number of cases of COVID second wave is increasing rapidly, NEET PG aspirants took to Twitter to demand postponement of PG exam using the hashtag, #postponeneetpg, for the campaign. Around 1.5 lakh COVID cases are being reported across India and a number of doctors have also tested positive. Aspirants believe that conducting NEET PG 2021 amid the COVID-19 second wave will put students at risk.

In support of NEET PG 2021 postponement, Srijan Pal Singh Kalam, advisor to former President, APJ Abdul Kalam tweeted: “We are seeing record numbers of COVID infections now, this will put a lot of risk & stress on 2 lakh candidates & their parents. @PMOIndia must consider postponing it by 2 weeks to save students. #postponeneetpg”.

Another aspirant requests postponement tweeting, “Please understand many pg aspirants won't be coming from their homes...They are providing services in various hospitals. They are in some other cities, there families in some other cities.”

In tweets addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi l, candidates requested that NEET PG 2021 not be postponed beyond May, but that it is held after the second wave of COVID-19 abates

NBE conducts NEET PG exam for admission to 24,360 Doctor of Medicine (MD), 12,690 Masters of Surgery (MS) and 922 PG Diploma seats offered by medical colleges. NEET PG 2021 admit card will be released soon on NBE official website. The authority has released the NEET PG COVID advisory for medical graduates with other preventive measures.
