NEET round 2 counselling 2026 begins; know choice filling, freeze and float options

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has opened the registration for round 2 of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate, NEET UG counselling 2026 for the All India Quota, Deemed and Central Universities today. Eligible candidates must get themselves registered on or before September 11. The state counselling under the round 2 schedule will be conducted from September 7 to 11.

Candidates participating in the counselling process will have to complete the process on the MCC counselling portal, including choice filling and choice locking, before commencement of the seat allotment process. MCC NEET UG Counselling LIVE updates.

What candidates need to do next?

Candidates should first log in to the counselling portal and check their application and current choice-filling status. The MCC guide says choice filling is not permitted without payment of the applicable registration fee. Candidates can then view the choices available to them based on their eligibility and filter them by institute type, institute and programme.

After checking the available options, candidates have to enter their preferred institutes and programmes in the order in which they want them considered. The guide advises candidates to review their filled choices before locking them, as seat allotment will be carried out based on the order of preferences submitted and locked by the candidate. For choice locking, candidates will have to confirm their choices using their password and OTP.

Post completion of the choice-filling and choice-locking process, MCC will go through submitted preferences and publish the seat allotment result. Candidates will have to log in to the portal to check their allotment status.

Freeze or float options

Candidates who are satisfied with their allotted seat and do not want to participate in the next round can select the Freeze option. In this case, they must contact the designated Nodal Officer and physically visit the allotted institute for offline document verification. If they fail to report within the stipulated timeframe, their seat will be cancelled.

Candidates who want to participate in the next round can select the Float option. Such candidates will participate in the next round of counselling and, according to the MCC guide, must contact the Nodal Officer for online document verification. They do not have to visit the allotted institute at this stage.

The guide further states that in case of seat upgradation, the currently allocated seat will be cancelled and a new seat will be allotted in the next round according to the choices submitted by the candidate. Candidates have to upload the required documents through the counselling portal.
