NEET SS 2025: SC orders restoration of 151 Tamil Nadu seats; MCC to complete counselling in 2 weeks

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has welcomed the Supreme Court's direction to the Tamil Nadu government to restore the 151 National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET Super Specialty (NEET SS) seats by July 29 evening. The apex court has ordered the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to complete the counselling process within two weeks.

Following the directions, FAIMA appealed to MCC to resume the NEET SS 2025 counselling process immediately and implement court's order without any further delay. Highlighting that every additional delay adversely affects both their careers and patient care, the doctors' body said thousands of specialist doctors have already waited for months to begin their super-speciality training.

"Thousands of specialist doctors have already waited for months, and every additional delay impacts both their careers and patient care," FAIMA said in a statement.

FAIMA's appeal

The development comes a day after FAIMA submitted a formal representation to the Registrar (Judicial) of the Supreme Court seeking consideration of the scheduled hearing. In its representation, the association highlighted that the NEET SS 2025 counselling process had remained stalled for nearly five months, due to which thousands of qualified candidates were unable to commence their super-speciality training.

FAIMA had urged the court to take up the matter on the scheduled date , stating that the prolonged delay had caused professional, financial and psychological hardship to aspiring specialist doctors. The association also argued that hospitals and healthcare institutions across the country were awaiting the joining of super-speciality residents.

Earlier, FAIMA had publicly appealed for an early hearing, stating that nearly five months of delay in the NEET SS 2025 counselling process had left thousands of qualified specialist doctors waiting.

Counselling schedule

With SC directing the Tamil Nadu government to restore 151 seats and instructing MCC to conclude the counselling process within two weeks, candidates are now awaiting the immediate resumption of the NEET SS 2025 counselling schedule.
