The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode's Kochi campus was inaugurated by the Kochi Metro Rail Managing director on Saturday
KOCHI: The Kochi campus of Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) was inaugurated at the CUSAT metro station at Kalamassery here on Saturday, the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) said. The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) campus was inaugurated by KMRL Managing Director Loknath Behera, it said.
The campus marks a significant milestone in transit-oriented urban development, KMRL said in a release. Developed under KMRL's Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) initiative through a build-to-suit model, the project demonstrates how metro infrastructure can be transformed into world-class educational spaces while promoting sustainable urban development, it said.
"Spread across 62,000 square feet and over seven storeys, the contemporary campus is among the tallest purpose-built educational buildings in Ernakulam district," it said. It was constructed using nearly 500 metric tonnes of structural steel and features 1,800 square metres of glass façade. The building combines architectural elegance with modern engineering, ensuring abundant natural light, energy efficiency and a striking visual identity, KMRL said.
The campus, which is integrated directly with the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) metro station, offers seamless access through public transport, making it a model for transit-oriented development, the release said. The project reinforces KMRL's vision of creating sustainable urban infrastructure that extends beyond mobility to support education, innovation and economic growth, it added. KMRL said that the new campus is expected to become both a centre of excellence in management education and a prominent architectural landmark on Kochi's skyline.
