NTA to consider JEE Main representations from candidates of flood affected areas

NEW DELHI: As per reports, the National Testing Agency has undertaken before the Bombay High Court on Tuesday (September 1) to consider the representations from students unable to take JEE Main today or any day from September 1 to 6. Those candidates who are not able to reach the JEE Main exam centres due to flood situation or due to the problem of transportation and communication can go through the local authorities to be taken forward to the conducting body, i.e. NTA.

On the first day of JEE Main April session, i.e. On September 1, there was an urgent plea (suo motu public interest litigation by a citizen) in the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court seeking postponement of JEE Main 2020 in the flood affected areas, specifically Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region. The court has directed the concerned agency or Centre coordinators to NTA to enquire from District Collector and Centre Co-ordinator and the decision on the same has to be taken within 15 days of receiving such representation.

Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar also said that students from flood-affected areas in the state can make a representation to NTA through their respective district collectors in case they cannot appear for the JEE-NEET exams.

As the JEE Main 2020 is being conducted amid COVID-19 pandemic, the exam which was supposed to be conducted in April was postponed several times and finally has commenced from September 1 to 6. However, under the new normal, public transportation is not easily available yet and flood hit areas are in mess. In such a situation, it has become troublesome for many candidates to appear in this JEE Main entrance examination. NEET will be held on September 13.
