NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the JEE Main cutoff 2021 along with the results of May session exam. JEE Main cutoff will be the minimum percentile score which every candidate needs to score in order to qualify for JEE Advanced.

Candidates should know that no separate cutoffs are released for different sessions of JEE Main. As the JEE Main 2021 will be conducted in four sessions, the cutoff will be determined only after the exams in May session.

Candidates securing scores equal to or above the cutoff score will be declared qualified and will become eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced exam for taking admission in IITs. JEE Main cutoffs are different for unreserved and reserved category candidates.

How will JEE Main cutoff be determined?

The cutoffs of JEE Main are decided on considering several factors listed below, but not limited to these. The concerned authorities may consider several factors for arriving at the suitable JEE Main cutoffs.

  • Difficulty level of JEE Main exam
  • Total number of candidates taking the exam
  • Total number of seats available for admission
  • Previous year cutoff trends

JEE Main cutoffs are in the form of candidates’ normalised percentile score. Cutoffs are determined on the basis of normalised score to eliminate any possible disparity in the difficulty level of the exam as the JEE Main papers are held in several shifts and sessions.

Candidates will also get an all India rank (AIR) based on the best of scores obtained. Admission in NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and other participating institutes will be based on the all India rank of candidates irrespective of obtaining the JEE Main cutoff scores. The JEE Main cutoff scores are only meant for shortlisting the candidates for JEE Advanced exam.
