Over 150 Charpak scholarships awarded to Indian students to study in French institutions

NEW DELHI: Over 150 Charpak scholarships have been awarded to Indian students to study at French institutions in the fall.

The Ambassador of France to India Emmanuel Lenain felicitated the recipients of the Charpak scholarship 2023 programme of excellence and the Franco-Indian Education Trust held at the French Embassy in New Delhi.

The event was attended by scholars, representatives of prominent companies, and various Indian institutions.The scholarship awardees are from the 18 to 25 years age group. These students were chosen on account of their academic achievements and their study projects. The selected students will get a chance to study at French institutions.

The 2023 Charpak scholarships were awarded for engineering, science, arts and design, social studies, business management, film, journalism, and the French language. A total of 150 Charpak scholarships were given to deserving students for the upcoming academic year. They will be able to pursue various degree programmes in France including a semester-long exchange programme with a partner university there.

The students will also get a chance to complete their specialized bachelor's or master's degree and on the successful completion of these programmes they will be granted international degrees. The Charpak scholarship program provides financial assistance to Indian students as research interns, exchange students, or full-time degree students. The funding reached 1.4 million euros in 2022. The recipients of the French Government Scholarship Holder title will receive several benefits, including a monthly stipend to cover everyday expenses, a free student visa and assistance with the "Etudes en France" application process, health insurance coverage, and affordable accommodation in France. The institutions also grant tuition fee waivers to deserving students.

Lenain said, “My warmest congratulations to the recipients of this year's awards. The French government awards scholarships worth 15 crore rupees to over 500 Indian students every year. It shows France’s commitment to increasing exchanges between French and Indian youths, and creating more and more opportunities for talented young Indians to come to France.”

The ambassador congratulated the five winners of the "Legrand Empowering Scholarship," an innovative corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by the France-based Legrand Group. This scholarship supports the students who come from socially and economically disadvantaged families. The Legrand Group provides the opportunity for an internship at its headquarters in Limoges, France, with all living expenses.

The Amba Dalmia scholarship program, established by the Franco-Indian Education Trust, aims to support Indian women pursuing studies in diverse fields such as music, theatre, sports, arts, cinema, ballet, opera, philosophy, gastronomy, design, painting, or photography in France. Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens, a counsellor for Education, Science, and Culture at the French Embassy, welcomed the students. Fabien Chareix, Attaché for University and Scientific Cooperation, gave an overview of the higher education system in France.

The French Embassy announces more than 500 scholarships to Indian students every year. The Embassy has partnered with corporate and institutional entities such as Legrand India Private Limited, Dassault Aviation, Dalmia group, ISAE-MBDA, and The Neemarana Music Foundation.
