PAU scientist felicitated by Indian Society for Cotton Improvement Mumbai
Punjab Agricultural University cotton breeder has assisted in the development of more than 20 cotton varieties.

NEW DELHI: A faculty member of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) was conferred with Rao Bahadur V Ramanatha Iyer Award at the ninth Asian Cotton Research and Development Network Meeting and International Conference. PAU’s principal cotton breeder Dharminder Pathak was honoured by the Indian Society for Cotton Improvement (ISCI Mumbai).
Pathak who teaches at PAU’s plant breeding and genetics department was honoured at the international conference held on the theme ‘Innovations for resilient and sustainable cotton production and viable value chain’. The conference was hosted by ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai, last month.
Pathak was awarded for his outstanding contributions to cotton breeding. He has assisted in the development of more than 20 cotton varieties and is actively engaged in the exploitation of related species for the genetic enhancement of the crop. His research papers have been published in high impact factor journals.
Meanwhile, a poster entitled ‘Genetic variation for fibre quality traits in the interspecific backcross derivatives of cotton’ received the Best Poster Award during the conference. The paper has been jointly authored by Veerpal, Dharminder Pathak, Salil Jindal, Pankaj Rathore and Hamid Hasan. The research has been conducted by Veerpal under the guidance of her major advisor Dharminder Pathak.

PAU vice-chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal, director research AS Dhatt and Plant Breeding and Genetics department head VS Sohu congratulated Pathak for winning the accolades at international conference and extended them best wishes for their future endeavours.
