According to JNU CHS students, temple inauguration directly contradict the foundational principles of democracy, secularism of India.
NEW DELHI: The Centre for Historical Studies (CHS) students and alumni at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) organised a protest against the Ram Temple consecration ceremony today, January 22. To make a statement against the celebration JNU CHS organised a mass Preamble-reading session and made posters at different places.
"If Hindu Raj does become a fact, it will, no doubt, be the greatest calamity for this country. Hindulsm Is a menace to liberty, equality and fraternity. On that account it is incompatible with democracy that Hindu Raj must be prevented at any cost," CHS alumni statement read.
The CHS urged JNU students and staff to recognise and resist the agenda that sesks to polarise society along religious lines, especially in light of recent attempts to legitimise the temple inauguration. According to CHS, temple inauguration directly contradict the foundational principles of democracy, secularism, and the core spirit of the Indian nation, and foster an environment of inclusivity, diversity, and unity.

"As Future historians, It is imperative for us to discern and challenge inaccuracies in historical claims. In this context, we recall Prof. Supriya Varma's principled apposition to the ASI report, outlining the distortions and malpractices that led to its dubious conclusions. We must, therefore, oppose all efforts to manipulate and mangle history to serve a political agenda, CHS alumni said.
The JNU CHS students condemned the celebration of the inauguration of this project within CHS premises. We call for the reconsideration of this decision, emphasising the importance of maintaining democratic norms, JNU CHS students added.
