NEW DELHI: Schools across the nation have been shut down since mid-March last year due to Covid-19. Educational institutions have been relying on online classes for more than a year now. Students are eagerly waiting to know when will schools reopen. Since there has been a decrease in the Covid-19 cases for the past few months, schools are mulling over resuming offline classes and reopeningschools.

Some states like Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka have now decided to reopen the schools. The Karnataka government has also allowed schools to reopen for Classes 9 to 12 from August 23. Schools in Delhi have reopened from August 9 for Classes 10 to 12 for admission-related work.
In the past year, schools have witnessed a massive transition in terms of mode of study. From offline classes to online classes students have experienced a major shift. The board exams have also been cancelled this year.
Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in a recent issues circular said "Students of class 10 to 12 in the city are permitted to visit their schools from August 9 (Monday) for admission-related work including counselling, guidance and practical activities for board exam. Health checkups and referral services situated in schools or conducted from there can resume. Children of all age may visit these centres accompanied by their parents or guardians.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam has announced a major update on the reopening of Schools. Classes from the HS level will resume in the first week of September 2021. Detailed SOP regarding the school reopening will be released on or before August 31, 2021.

The Karnataka government has given permission to reopen schools, however a section of school management said that parent are not willing to send their students to school, as per reported by Times of India.
Uttar Pradesh government has reopened the schools for offline classes. Also, the attendance for students is not mandatory and schools can be closed again if the COVID-10 situation worsens in the state.
As NDTV reported, "In UP, the present atmosphere is sufficiently secure but if there is any indication of any concern (regarding COVID-19), we can also close schools," said Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma
The Uttar Pradesh government decided to reopen offline classes for 1 to 8 class students after observing the decline in COVID-19 curve. The schools for students 6 to 8 will open from August 23, while schools for classes 1 to 5 will reopen from September 01, reported by AAJ TAK news,
As per latest update on Tamil Nadu school reopening, the offline classes will begin from September 1. This reopening of schools will be for students of Class 9 to 12 following all COVID-19 safety protocols and guidelines. The SOPs has been released by the government, only 50% attendance will be allowed in schools, as per Times Now News.

The Rajasthan government has decided that the schools in the state will reopen from September 12, 2021. Schools both government and private have started preparing for COVID-19 SOPs, reported Indian Express. As per the order, schools will reopen with 50% capacity. Both teaching and non-teaching staff should have received the first dose of vaccination.
Karnataka School Reopening: Karnataka government will reopen the schools for Classes 9 to 12 from August 23, 2021 following COVID-19 guidelines, reported Indian Express. As per the report, the students will be divided into small batches. The number of each batch would be between 15-20 students. Schools across Jammu and Kashmir have been ordered to remain closed till further orders. Last week, the authorities decided to keep the schools across the union territory including coaching centres closed till further orders. However, students were allowed to take part in Independence Day celebrations held in different parts following COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.
Schools across Odisha reopened for students of class 9 from August 16. Both government and private schools have started physical classes for the academic session 2021-22. As per the circular, classes start at 9 am and continued till 12.30 pm with no recess or lunch hour.

As per Tamil Nadu school reopening news, Tamil Nadu will resume offline classes for students from Class 9 to 12 from September 1. Tamil Nadu medical colleges reopens from August 16, 2021 i.e. today.
As per latest update on school reopening in AP, the government has decided to reopen schools for intermediate or class 12. Attendance has not been made mandatory for offline classes yet and online classes would continue.

As the schools reopen in states across India, several students have tested Covid-19 positive in Himachal Pradesh, increasing the risk of infection among citizens, as reported by Indian Today.
"Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said he will decide on the date and nature of the school opening," Students are still waiting for update on Rajasthan school reopening. Dates are expected to be out soon.
Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Nagaland, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry and Lakshadweep all began classes in the first week of August, and Uttar Pradesh plans to restart classes from August 16, 2021. Tamil Nadu is also planning to reopen schools soon.
Maharashtra schools to reopen from August 17, 2021, government has released SOP to be followed by schools. The schools will resume from next week onwards for classes 5 to 12 in rural areas and for classes 8 to 12 in urban areas. Staff and students, vaccination has been made compulsory, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The reopening of schools in each state depends on various factors such as COVID-19 situation, lockdown effect, and others. Most of the states are planning to reopen school with alternate or half capacity. Also, the attendance is not compulsory, states are observing the situation carefully.
Schools in West Bengal are expected to reopen soon, the government is working on how and when to reopen schools in West Bengal.
"After discussing all the aspects in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee constituted to prepare a detailed SOP regarding the opening of the school, the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said he will decide on the date and nature of the school opening," the Rajasthan’s Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra tweeted. Students are still waiting for update on Rajasthan school reopening.
The Kerala government is planning to reopen schools in a phased manner after vaccinating students against COVID-19. As per NDTV, "Once we get necessary approval of the union government and concerned COVID-19 expert committees and agencies, the state government will consider the option of reopening the schools in a phased manner," General Education minister V Sivankutty said.
Countries need to consider gradual reopening of schools, because long time closure of schools is impacting not only education but also the social and mental health of children, World Health Organization South East Asia regional director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh told Economic Times.
The Karnataka government has decided to reopen schools in Karnataka for Classes 9 to 12 from August 23 in two stages.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, "We have decided to do it in two stages. In the first stage, class 9,10, also 11th and 12th (I and II PUC) classes will start from August 23."
Assam may resume offline Classes in the state from September 1, 2021, only if there is no fresh spike in the Covid-19 cases.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said “Safety of life is most important but we are deliberating on the possibility of opening the final year classes in post-graduate, degree, higher secondary and Class 10 from September 1. However, we won't take a risk if Covid cases surge again or a third wave like situation arises.”
Rajasthan Government has formed an expert committee. This committee will draft the SOP's which is to be followed by the schools in view of the global pandemic.
UP board has issued a notification regarding the admission of students in Classes 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Students who are promoted to the next class can get admission in their respective schools by filling an application form and paying the requisite fees. They will have to submit the required documents too. The last date for UP school admission 2021 is August 17, 2021.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to reopen schools in offline mode for intermediate second-year students from August 16, 2021. The school reopened in Andhra Pradesh will be on a voluntary basis and all the Covid-19 related protocols will be followed.

Maharashtra government will reopen the schools from August 17, 2021.
Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on School reopening said. “Offline classes will commence in rural areas for students from classes 5 to 8, while those in cities will be for students from classes 8 to 12 following Covid-19 protocols.”
The minister further added, "On-campus classes, however, will be allowed only in the areas where Covid-19 infections are consistently low."
The schools in Delhi have been reopened for classes 10 to 12 for admission-related activities. However, there is no update on the school reopening for Class 8.
The Karnataka government will reopen the schools in the state for students of Classes 9 to 12 from August 23. The government will soon release SOPs regarding the reopening of schools.
