NEET, UGC-NET exam 'irregularities' spark protests by SFI Activists

Download EBookNEW DELHI: Members of CPI(M)'s student wing SFI held demonstrations outside two universities here on Thursday as part of a day-long strike to protest alleged irregularities in NEET and UGC NET exams. They burned tyres in front of one of the gates of Jadavpur University in the southern part of the city and before the main gate of Presidency University in College Street area, demanding the arrest of the masterminds behind the alleged irregularities in the two exams.
The agitating students held placards and demanded action against the National Testing Agency, which organised the medical entrance examination, and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. At Presidency University, SFI members also blocked the arterial College Street for 30 minutes, causing disruption in south-bound traffic for some time.

"We congratulate the students for making the strike call a success," an SFI Presidency University unit spokesperson said. Abhinaba Basu, a member of the Students Federation of India's Jadavpur University unit, said the agitators received support from most students and did not stop anyone from entering the campus. The students' body state unit also organised several protest rallies in other parts of West Bengal on the issue throughout the day.
