SFI, DYFI Maharashtra jointly organized Yuva Vidyarthi March in Mumbai

NEW DELHI: The Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Maharashtra came together to organise the "Yuva - Vidyarthi March" from the fort, Municipality road to Maharashtra Mantralaya (Assembly), Mumbai bringing out the main problems of students and youth. This march gathered around 5000 students from across the state.

The student and youth march was addressed by SFI general secretary Mayukh Biswas, DYFI general secretary Himaghnaraj Bhattacharya, MLA Vinod Nikole, SFI Maharashtra secretary Rohidas Jadav and president Somnath Nirmal, AIKS All India President Ashok Dhawale, and others.

After the public meeting at Azad Maidan, leaders of both organisations submitted a memorandum to the ministry of education. The official press release read, "It is essential for the government to consider education and employment issues seriously and formulate concrete action plans."

Yuva Vidyarthi March: Demands

DYFI and SFI presented the following demands in the memorandum.

• Lift the restriction on government employment recruitments. Immediately fill all empty positions in the government and non-government sectors.

• Conduct all government job recruitments through the MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission).

• Establish public industry in indigenous communities.

• Start the Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme. Implement the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in an efficient manner.

• Eliminate contractual appointments in government jobs and instead give permanent employment with job stability.Ensure continuous services for contractual healthcare workers.

• Provide a monthly stipend of at least ₹5,000 to the unemployed.

• Take swift action against malpractices in job recruitments and ensure that job applications are free of cost.

• Update the employment registration portal to overcome technical challenges. Establish offices for each employment registration center across the state.

• Continue to provide services to healthcare workers who worked during the COVID period.

• Improve the conditions of government schools by canceling the school adoption scheme.

• Effectively implement the Right to Education Act (RTE); include students from 9th to 12th standard under RTE. Revoke recognition for schools violating RTE.

• Revoke the central kitchen system in tribal residential hostels.

• Provide free bus and train passes for all students across the state.

• Construct hostels for various departments to accommodate students and enhance their capabilities.

• Facilitate effective utilization of government hostels for the children of sugarcane workers.

• Waive off the complete educational fees for students in drought-affected areas.

• The Govt. of India scholarship, Swadhar (for SC ) scholarships, and other scholarships should provide on time; increase the scholarship amounts. Grant free admission to scholarship recipients in universities.

• Stop reducing the seats of research students; apply fellowships to all eligible researchers starting from the Ph.D. registration date.

• Resume the Maulana Azad Fellowship for minority students who had to discontinue due to the pandemic.

• Reject the New Educational Policy (NEP) 2020.

• Implement student elections through the democratic process.

• Cancel the private University Bill.

• Provide free sanitary pads to girls in every educational institution.

• Enact a law to regulate arbitrary practices in private coaching classes.

• Address the concerns of all ITI students in the state by providing updated machinery, hostels, and well-equipped residential facilities.

• 10% allocation of the entire budget for educational expenditures.

• Implement the Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GS-CASH) to combat harassment in educational institutions.

• Reduce the semester exam fees.

• Ensure that every school has sports teachers, librarians, developed laboratories, and advanced educational technology to promote overall growth.
