Tamil Nadu declares holiday for schools, colleges in 4 districts tomorrow in view of cyclone Michaung

Educational institutions and government offices in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu will remain closed on December 5.
NEW DELHI: The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday for schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in four districts tomorrow, December 5 in view of cyclone Michaung. Schools, colleges, and government offices will remain closed tomorrow in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu as a special case.
The public (miscellaneous) department issued an order regarding the public holiday and reasoned that the cyclone is likely to reach Tamil Nadu by the forenoon of December 5 due to which the four districts may experience heavy rainfall and strong winds.
“Deep depression over South West Bay of Bengal which has intensified into a cyclonic storm “Michaung” and lay centered at 8:30 am today, December 4, 2023 at 90 km east, north-east of Chennai. It is likely to move north, north-west wards, intensify further and reach west-central Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Tamil Nadu by 5th December forenoon,” the department said in the order.
In view of this, the government has decided to declare a public holiday on December 5, 2023 under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, as a special case.
“All schools, colleges, educational institutions, and government offices including the offices of public undertakings/ corporations, boards, banks, financial institutions etc., in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts will be closed on December 5, 2023,” the order added.
