Tamil Nadu government rolls out 41 special buses for school students' commute

Tamil Nadu's Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has started an additional 41 special school bus services for students in Chennai from today onwards, following chief minister C Joseph Vijay's order. The special school buses will take students from their residential area bus stops and the school, in the morning and evening, both to and from school.

The decision has been taken to facilitate safe travel for students without crowding, after a survey report was brought to the notice of chief minister Vijay.

After MLA Arul Prakasam, a member of Saidappet Legislative Assembly, requested bus facility for students studying in two government schools in Saidappet constituency on June 30, to the transport minister, a 10-day field survey has been carried out in Saidappet and several areas.

The report covers schools within the jurisdiction of the Municipal Transport Corporation office, and has been prepared based on the opinions of the students, parents, and teachers belonging to the areas.

According to the IAN report, MLA Prakasam M flagged off two special buses for government school students facing commuting difficulties. He also travelled with students on the newly introduced bus service.

Tamil Nadu: 84 buses will operate for students

As per the MTC Chennai official statement, while 50 trips were being made to 25 schools in the city by 25 buses, now 84 special buses are being operated by the Municipal Transport Corporation through 41 special buses each day. The buses were commissioned by TN’s transport minister Vijay Tamilan Parthipan today, along with the managing director of the MTC, and other departmental officers.
