Tamil Nadu Government Awards for Scholars: Submissions open till August 22

Tamil Nadu state awardees will receive an award of Rs 2 lakh with a gold medal
The Tamil Nadu government is inviting applications for the 2025 Tamil Nadu state awards. These awards are given to recognise and promote the Tamil language and culture in the state. Winners are rewarded with cash prizes and medals. Interested candidates can apply online at sorkuval.tn.gov.in.
The Tamil Nadu government is granting the Devaneya Pavanar Award to Tamil scholars who have made “significant contributions” and done “outstanding work” towards Tamil lexicography, etymology, and dictionary compilation. The awardees will receive a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a gold medal.
The Tamil Nadu government awards will also include the Pure Tamil Media Award, also known as the Thuyat Tamil Oodaga Virudhu. It will be presented to print and visual media organisations that use a purely Tamil vocabulary. Organisations that make “exemplary” contributions to Tamil journalism will be considered for the award.

Tamil Nadu Awards: Eligibility
To apply for the government awards in Tamil Nadu, candidates need not be residents of the state. Tamil scholars and media houses from all over the country are eligible for submissions.
Individuals and organisations who are interested in the Tamil Nadu government awards can submit their applications by August 22, till 5 pm. Submissions can also be made via post to the following address: Directorate of Ancient Tamil Lexicon Project, first floor, number 75, Santhome High Road, MRC Nagar, Chennai, 600028.
The Tamil Nadu government recognises the contributions of people in various fields and subject areas through state awards. These awards are conferred during important state celebrations like Thiruvalluvar Day, Independence Day, and Republic Day. So far, the state government has implemented a total of 60 awards across different domains.
